FYI: BioacousTalks: Advancements in acoustic detection & classification techniques w/ Thomas Napier
I just wanted to let you know that a new bioacoustalk ( https://youtu.be/CGRJcYRNl58 ) had been published. It`s about a web-based open-source tool called "LEAVES" ( *L* arge-scale *E* coacoustics *A*

My apologies, Jonas. Thanks for the clarification.

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
Jonas, thanks for the Geofon. It's a unique solution to problems I didn't even know I had!

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
Use a contact microphone.? Attach it to the stalk as soon as it becomes visible coming out of the ground.? You'll get all the vibrations of the growth and very little of wind or other airborne

Re: [allowed] Re: [MicBuilders] Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
If you can find one that still works and is affordable, the Sennheiser MKH 110-1 (sometimes labelled MKH 110/1) has a -3 dB point at 0.1 Hz and a pretty much flat response to 20 kHz, with a slight

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
Yeah that's understandable. :-) However if Benn succeeds in making such a microphone I think there is a good chance he will release his design and code and such, so that might make it easier. -c

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
LOM Geofon DIY kit is in stock, and has a better performance in basically every spec compared to the cheap aliexpress unit. It is also omnidirectional, which makes it far more useful for this sort of

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
Hello, I've watched some videos, featuring the geofone. The main focus of the geofone are the low frequencies when I get it right. As the lom gefon is always sold out and very expensive, I looked to

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
Thanks for your input! The video was interesting! I'm not sure if this more scientific approach is feasible for me. I would like to give some background information on the strong growth of bamboo

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
Many thanks for your contribution. Your experimental microphone looks interesting! The recording of the falling feather also sounds great. Fantastic! When it's windy a bamboo forest can become quite

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
@Jonas Gruska @DF Nice story! Is it possible to listen to your giant TV cable violin-like tree instrument performance? Would be fun! Thanks for pointing me to the LOM Geofon. It would be interesting

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
Hey there, small correction ¨C Geof¨®n is not piezo based, but it has a geophone element ¨C coil suspended on springs around a magnetic core. I would also try it for this project :) Regards, Jonas

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
At the end of his recent video <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEC6PM97IRI> Benn Jordan mentioned using (light) interferometry and high speed cameras to make an ultra-sensitive non-contact contact

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
Under the heading ¡°crazy ideas¡± I have an experimental microphone to offer. It is based on 7 AOM-5024L-HD-R capsules. SNR is around 87 dB. Unfortunately, I don't have any bamboo growing here. Here

Re: Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
LOM Geofon is a magnetic piezo mic that could be attached to a steel plate or a stake driven into the ground to pick up what's happening beneath the soil. I used one of these very sensitive vibration

Which mics to us to record the growth of bamboo shoots?
Hi all Recently I took a night recording at a bamboo forest where bamboo shoots were sprouting from the ground all over the place. This type of bamboo shoot can grow up to 110 cm per day (5 cm/h). No
