Re: Stretched Alice
I find the 16mm Primo cardioid capsules -- the EM200 and EM204 -- signifcantly better than the smaller capsules.
At 127dB the EM204 might not have a sufficiently high maximum SPL? level ? -- The

Re: Stretched Alice
That may well be true. I'm also thinking of something compact that can go in the violin case and capture decent recordings when I don't have an external mic or stand handy.
An omni (EM172) right

Re: Stretched Alice
For the purposes of busking (... sound reinforcement) I don't know whether you'd hear any measurable benefit from the complexity of a FETless capsule plus full Alice circuitry, compared to a

Re: DIY mic activator body options?
I build those kinds of things in guitar pedal type enclosures. Plenty of
space for whatever circuits you need.

Re: DIY mic activator body options?
Triton FetHead is what I am using. Like I said, the performance is as expected with some XLR input devices and pretty bad with others.

Re: Stretched Alice
Hi Jeremy,
I¡¯ve done this sort of thing many times, putting the FET and 1G resistor right on the back of the capsule. Mogami makes some nice thin mic cable with two conductors and shield.

Stretched Alice
(First post)
Hi,
I have been experimenting with small electret microphones (from Primo) mounted on goosenecks as violin pickups for busking (including classical repertoire). Visibly similar to a DPA

Re: Putting an "internal" FET on an electret capsule
Thank you for your reply. What I am looking for is a way to solder a FET directly to the capsule like in the TSB2590 so I can use it like Jules did in the fur ball stereo Mic build that plugged

Re: P48 Omni enclosure
Ah, I did originally start with two small blimps about 90mm OD, but wanted
to create a larger bubble of still air.
Also, the various cables and mounts in my design, were a bit of a hassle.

Sergio, what circuit are you using ?
Matthew McGlynn at Recording Hacks had a big review of several such devices.
It showed the Cloudlifter as the best and the FEThead sorta second with some

Hey Matt.
You already did print your blimp but this may help as a secondary solution.
I had these printed, from PETG (PLA is too fragile and easily deforms in higher

Re: P48 Omni enclosure
Hi Matt,
Cool blimp!
Regarding 3d printing material, PLA is more brittle, and will become even more brittle as it is exposed to sunlight. PETG or TPU are less brittle and better suited to the

Re: P48 Omni enclosure
Great job with the blimp!
For suspending a 'standard' 20 mm stick mic, the lyres from Rycote or Rode are nice but a bit pricey. I also like the simple elastic band shockmounts (

For dynamics, it¡¯s not just a LF effect, it¡¯s also a HF issue:

Hi Matt,
I'm not wise enough to chime in on the acoustic properties, but having
looked around at the commercial offerings for EM272 caps, it doesn't seem
so critical with Omni's.

P48 Omni enclosure
Hi all,
I've built several simple P48 AOM5024 microphones for field recording and
recently designed and 3D printed a large blimp cage (180mm OD, 400mm long).
I'm now at the stage where I want to use

Re: DIY mic activator body options?
This just reduces the LF around the 'bass resonance' of the dynamic mike by 6dB.? Using an OM2 or Beta 58a at 30cm or less for speech, you probably need to reduce bass even imore ndoors.? Certainly

Re: a partial soundfield stereo mic for studio.
I'm wondering how close could you mount two TSB2555s back to back before they interfere unacceptably with the rear cancellation and therefore the pattern?
