Re: A (better?) solution for contact mics
Interesting. The listing doesn't say what it's made of or how it works; is it just a piezoelectric element in a housing? Then the "40 kHz" number probably means its resonance is at 40 kHz, so it

Link works for me. Specifications don¡¯t seem to reveal very much. Very curious to hear some sample recordings!

Re: DIY PUI Capsule Mic
For a soldering iron, I use a TS100, there are many variants as google will
show you, but I really like the features.
Set temperature, auto sleep, auto wake, boost. Packs away easily when

Re: DIY PUI Capsule Mic
A good 25, 40 or 60 watt soldering iron with a moderately large tip should work well. Get it up to temp, first, and use a substantial tip to convey lots of heat quickly. A very narrow pointed tip

Looking for a small quantity of solder, maybe flux in a syringe/pen, but seeing a debate between no-clean and rosin, which is better for capsules?
Some recommend using the same flux that's in the

Re: Suppressing RF noise - ambient mics into CODEC (on headphones)
Hey Folks,
Good news, Thanks to all your advice here, I was eventually able to eliminate all RF interference! Ultimately, it took properly shielding everything - as in 100% of all electronics, wiring,

@ James,
So you have used some of these Chinese mic boards successfully. I¡¯m curious whether yours have missing bass like the ones I¡¯ve seen. For radio or speech recognition, that might be a good

Re: DIY PUI Capsule Mic
No need for an expensive soldering station. A good regulated soldering iron
would work too. Like a CXG DS90T for example.
You can get a low temperature solder for soldering the capsule. Using a

Re: DIY PUI Capsule Mic
Got it, 5024P instead of 5024L.
If "iron must be limited to 360C", what temp do you actually use for ECM capsules?
For other jobs I've seen recommendations as low as 300C.

What should I look for on a soldering iron given the issue of heating the capsule more than necessary?
Is a heatsink recommended?
