James, thanks for the Takstar demo. I am yet again reminded just how darn good many electret mics are these days. :-). About the only other feedback I'm after is the mic noise when used with a good field recorder. The low noise and high gain of the Primo and PUI omnis have kind of spoiled me there, especially when properly powered by a simpleP48 setup.
Stephanie - there was no opportunity to better seal the cone in the SYNCO v10; there is no cone! Or any other barrier between the mic capsule and the rest of the tube. Just a PC board slid into the hollow tube body from the connector end, with two thin leads that get soldered to the capsule. Sad, because in other aspects the mic construction is not that bad. The foam I used for semicircle barriers above and below the board (and positioned to be just behind the body vents, hopefully creating the proper behind-mic space) is only 3/8" thick, so most componentry is still exposed to air, and the amount of heat generated is truly negligable anyway... More testing is planned. Eventually...
