Bridgeport Mill Stepper recommendation?
Chris Buchanan
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good stepper to direct drive a bridgeport clone knee mill. I intend to direct drive a .200" lead ballscrew for X and Y. Thus I would only need about 300 rpm to get a max of 60 IPM.
What would be the benefit of using a smaller motor and perhaps a 2:1 Mechanical reduction at 600 rpm, other than resolution? I am trying to stay away from any detrimental effects of operating steppers at a higher rpm with reduced torque or any resonance prone speeds. Thanks Chris B |

Hi, Chris:
Just a thouhgt. is this mill ballscrew now. ? If it's not Bport ser. 1 Ridig or J-head mill's are out there (e-bay) for less than $1000.00, just install Gecko Drive's & power supply Mach3. Has, Ballscrew's X Y Z Stepper 1.8deg 200step over all, ratio 5:1 1000 step's per 1" Nice Table size. Limit switch's Spindel motor 2 hp is 3 phase (phase adapter) or change out to 1 phase Var speed head Quick change spindel. Sound's like bport sale's, Hu. Thanks, for the info. This is a 12 x 54 that I need to retrofit for a friend, I believe it is a birmingham.
