Definitely needed, I need 300 for switches, spindle won't run properly
at 100 - it halves actual rpm!

I'd be interested in what your spindle RPM now reads and if its more stable.
Not brilliant news :(

All tests at 400rpm

Debounce 20 50 50 100
Normal Spin count 3495 3492 3541 failed
Current Spin count 7339 5124 5836
Adder 3344 1966 1846

Adder is still counting millions for ages after spindle starts and
there is a distinctive jump in X & Z axis as it stops counting and
then decides to move in for cut.

Z moves are not smooth and it is only half way through a 10mm long
thread that feed is consistent.

Displayed spindle rpm is much smoother, but I think there is still
something wrong somewhere.

Spindle speed is not changing throughout all this but Mach2 seems to
be displaying or "sensing" a slight slowdown,as Z axis moves, my tacho
says it's not?

Art:

Still in development, so at this point, it simply reads the PID values
(the pots) and displays the current pot reading. This is only valid if your
using the Rutex motherboard and have the SPI jumpers installed.

Thanks,

ScreenTweak - Release A2.1

John Prentice

Hi to all who work with ScreenDesigner

Rev A2 of the Mach2Mill manual documents the format of a .SET (i.e. screen Layout) file.

Mach2ScreenTweak is a utility allows you to manipulate Layout files in the following ways:

(a) Export data on the controls from a layout to a text (CSV) file for analysis and documentation purposes
(b) Import data on screen controls from a CSV file
(c) Delete screen(s)
(d) Move screen number within a layout so the number in Designer is position when using Mach2
(e Append screen(s) from another layout (to include one's own favorites)
(f) Re-caption screen selection buttons to the logical F-keys etc.
(g) Resize a screen or whole layout to smaller or bigger screen resolution
(h) Re-order a group of DROs so arrow key moves through them more logically
(i) Produce a simple statistical report on the controls in a layout or one of its screens.

I have used the Export/Import feature to compare screens between successive releases on Mach2Mill and to make systematic changes of conventional buttons to bitmap buttons.

Appending, Deleting and Moving screens is useful when you want to merge a custom screen with the standard screens issued by Art,

Notice that the caption text on conventional buttons is the same font and size whatever the size of the button so shrinking screens can cause the captions not to fit on the buttons. Bitmap buttons scale without difficulty.

I have just released version A2.1 which I consider to be Beta status. This now:

(1) Implements sorting of DROs in a group
(2) Implements Statistics
(3) Implements Import of CSV format Layouts
(4) Has clearer user interaction when Undoing
(5) Fixes a bug whereby a Layout file overwritten by a smaller Layout by Save As did not physically shrink in size.
(6) Has a distinctive program Icon

The program, a Windows ActiveX control file which you may not have if you do not use other Visual Basic applications, and a sample Layout to experiment with importing screens are in a Zip in the folder M2ScreenTweak on this group.

The source also is available if you want to "play" with other features (not-for-profit). You will need Visual Basic 6.0 Professional or Enterprise edition. Let me know off list if you want access to the source files.

Comments and suggestions welcomed as always

John Prentice

Master 5 vs Mach 1

I recently bought a Mach 1 lic. and have been trying to run my
Master 5 code with Mach 1. I was happy with the parts I made with
Master 5. When I import the files to Mach 1 I get a series of errors
reported and the tool path display is not the same as master 5. Is
there some trick to using these files with Mach 1? I thought that
they would use the same files. I have tried using the Mach 1 DXF
import and many of the same errors appear as when I import the
Master 5 code files. I work in Acad 2004 and save in version 12 dxf
format.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Roger

New Mach 2 PC

Bought a new Mach 2 PC - Dell Dimension 2400 - 2.2 gig P4 - runs Mach
2 like a train with the devil on its back. I can't believe I waited
so long to upgrade, it makes Mach 2 run like it was intended.

OT / anyone got a micro atx board w/ onboard graphics ?

Servo Wizard

Jeff,

I have a new micro atx mainboard with 1GB of new PC133 memory but no OBV. I also have a new OEM Intel 1gHz CPU with a hurricane fan. Are you trying to build a Book PC or what is your space limitation? By the way, Abertek has hundreds of the MS9307C+ (USB) boards if you're interested.

Hi,

Is there a way to freeze the toolpath display in 2d. Also can you

Thanks

Fantastic Brian:

I have no idea if the acceleration of a servo is constant or not, but
my guess is that for the situations we're talking about this is a
very good approximation!
Thanks

Here is a formula for CONSTANT acceleration (Had to dig out my old
dynamics book)

X = .5 (Vo+V)*(V-Vo)/a

X is the distance that the axis will move
Vo is the starting Velocity of the axis (0 if the axis starts from
a
stop)
V is the Final velocity (The rate that you want to be at)
A is the Acceleration

If you all think that this looks good I will do an Excel sheet
tonight

Brian

PS I will take care of the units in the spreadsheet

Hi All:

Well, whata we got this week....(I'm now keeping a better filing system so
I'll list from my copius notes...

1) Close file button added.
2) Reload last session file button..
3) BackLash error fixed. (Thanks Isak)
4) Rutex stability in PID variable readouts.
5) CV-OFF LED OEM function is added (OEM #56)
6) Not pressing enter when entering a jog incr will no longer cause a 0 to
be entered. (Which was crashing the program)
7) Index signal is now debounced to eliminate spurious noise. This means the
width of a spindle index must be equal to your interrupt period * Debounce
interval before it is assumed to be valid.
8) Dwell G04 may be in milliseconds or seconds. Selected on the logic
screen. Small bug to be fixed for next version is that you must restart
program after changing this value.

Thanks,
Good luck, (Special driver has been updated for it as well.)

Encoder Reading.

Art

Hi All:

I found, while debugging Steves problem, that I had failed to consider
that deboucing the inputs would affect encoder reading adversly. It severly
limited the reading speed of encoders. Next version has been repaired so
that encoders are NOT debounced, thus keeping a maximum 22.5Khz reading
reliablility. (This is the Nyquist frequency at 45Khz, the highest sample
frequency whereby reliable operation of the encoder is possible.) So a 500
count encoder (which has 2000 quadrature counts per rev) can be read at a
maximum rate of 11.25Rev's per second or 675RPM on the encoder itself.
This means if we use encoders on the lathes as a final spindle
solution, you cannot drive them straight from the spindle at higher than
675RPM, but one of the feedgears or something would do (perhaps the
powerfeed gear?).

Just so you know the math of the encoders limitations....

Its on the logic tab just above the setting for which editor you use. Its

It shoudl be there, make sure that 1.003 loaded properly, check help about
to make sure...
