No problem, o1bigtenor. I want to know more about Ethercat also. Go ahead with the discussion! Does an Ethercat drive network directly to the PC, or is there still a motion control interface/card? ? Thank-you! Brian Martin

Okay enough of me running at the mouth.. Time to work with the
boy and get this engine painted so he can rebuild his first engine
on his own. I figure a 1939 9N is a good simple start. I guess
looking at it I should be teaching him electric motors and how to
program a BMS... Never thought it would happen but I think I am
getting dated (Yeah, I didn't want to say old)
Thanks

I actually talked to Vectis about this
before I got my Cobot. It was still too far of a stretch for
the Cobot arm though. Also the cost vs. benefit ratio was too
low to do an overhead mount.
Actually Brian I am completely open at this
point as far as components. What motion card would you use,
will the smooth stepper work with encoders?
I like the idea of using ethernet, my
thought is to have the pc mounted on a wheeled work station
with a single cable to the machine.

My dream is to not need the Cobot... why because they are small
and lots of money. I dream of making some software that will do
the anything over 6" weld for me so I can drink my coffee and
watch it get sunburn. ;)

The Clear path motors are okay but I think the best ones to use
for this would be closed loop steppers! I know stepper and you
want to say NO! but hear me out. The Closed loop steppers are
really a 50 pole AC servo motors. We can read the encoder and use
that data for telling the machine where it is while your teaching
it. Not need for any real fancy drive! We can use a chain to move
the welding head. for all I care and direct drive off the stepper
motor. I have done machines like this in the past this way and
they work slick! The issue with the Clear path is that you will
have inertia mismatch and the motor will not be able to be tuned
properly (I have some here that I can't use for that reason). If
you don't want to use a closed loop stepper we can use a normal
stepper and I can watch the position of some Aux encoders and use
them to look for missed steps and for the teach function. Okay I
think that is me blowing off at the mouth long enough. I am such a
sucker for a cool project LOL
Thanks
Brian

Cool, I have a welding bench here and a few welders I can
hook up for testing. I was thinking I would make something
that would mount to my table from weldtables.com . So if you
want to do this don't worry about the software side. We can
read the encoders and use that to program the motion... ALSO I
can move every axis as it is moving to get the machine where
the wield should be.

Thanks for the offer Brian. I will? be looking into the design some more. At this point I only have a vision. I will try to model what I want in Solidworks, and figure out the motion/ linear bearing etc.. If the project goes ahead, I will try to contact you. ? Thank-you! Brian Martin

need help... use button to start vbscript & read write value to a special DRO
hi! 2 questions :)
i playing with my mach3 and machscreen..
1. i have add a button to my screen. i wrote a vbscript and save them.in the macro folder.
name of the script is HomeTurret.
now i want to load this script as file when i hit the button. if i change something on the script i dont want to add the script again with machscreen.
is this possible??? can someone help me?
2.
when i do a toolchange my turret jogs to x5 z55. this values are named wzwx and wzwz i add 2 dro to my screen. i wish that the dros show me wzwx (5) and wzwz (55). and i want.. if i change the value in the dro.. that is set wzwx and wzwz to this.
example : in the dro i put in 10 and 60. then the machine jogs to x10 and z60.
its to set a toolchange position.
is this possible?! thanks

making holes without offsets
I have fiddled with arcs without offsets and now realize that i need to do the whole thing over but am working under somewhat reduced capacity and cannot learn a bunch of new programs.
I decided to try the two main holes starting over with cambam with the correct spacing. This will replace the mess I made before. I can deal with the few other holes later and use mach4 to determine the relative hole centers on the various 4th axis positions. I think there is a learning mode but it might take me longer to figure that out.
I think I have convinced myself that it is generally not good to use the quick and dirty easy method as it will bite you in the long run.

What is this latest suggestion? Using the phone and not easy to
see history.. Will check when i get home.. And not everything is
fucked up, Afte switching to msch4 i habe very few problems
??? ??? Remember several months back when I ask you if
anyone ever told you you were a ass ?? Well I 'm asking
again .If nobody has never told you that I'm sorry , you are
ASS? You write here how all your stuff is fucked up &
you can't get it to work . You blame the program . Go back
& look at some of your emails . People try to give you
help & your still a prick about it . Look I',m sorry you

has problems . Poor Spencer . I was offering a suggestion to
your problem . Maybe you've been waiting for many months
cause your a ass & they put your file in the ass file .
I wonder how many companies won't deal with you anymore due
to your stellar personality .
To the moderator , I'm sorry for going off on your forum ,
but I'm sick of listening to him grip about your product
& then he go's on using it till he has another glitch .
If I get banned I will understand & if I do get banned I
hope if you folks ban Spencer also or at least put him on
moderation . I'm sure I'm not the only one sick of his rants
, but I'm the onl;y one to say something about it . For the
amount of $ you have made off him I have to wonder if it
offsets his negative remarks .
end of rant

it looks like the program is online which means there
is about a 3% chance of it working on viasat. i have
fought with them for over a year and they can not seem
to get my shit working. replaced all the hardware from
dish to modem and we have a brand new router and it
still sucks. waiting for starlink some day?

I dont understand animal saying i am complaining about another bug and blaming the software. I was asking for help in eliminating offsets because i knew they are confusing and best avoided. I am trying? to get rid of an annoyance caused by my overuse of offsets. Animal seems to intepret everything i say as an assault on mach4. Maybe we need a separate thread for the hypersensitive.

I guess you were responding to my tongue in cheek FU. All my friends have starlink and i am envious. If i had known you were so sensitive and devoid of humor i would have not responded.
