somewhat OT...SCR controllers and PWM rated motors...compatible??

jagco1998

I have in my possesion a KB electronic model KBMM-225D controller,
and the opportunity to get a treadmill PM motor(90-130Vdc@......
full load amperage??)its pretty close to be rated within the
controllers limits(16 A average @90Vdc).

The guy that has it tells me that it more than likely wont work with
an SCR type controller.I dont see the distinction ...I thought a PM
motor was a PM motor, and as long as the motor matches the
Voltage/amperage of the controller, that the 2 were compatible.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the motor will work with
the controller before I purchase it.... and please explain to me why
it wont(if thats the case) so Ill have a better understanding of it
all and can match a motor to the controller .

Thanks all for your time and patience

Regards,
Jim

they appear to be at maximum kernel speed.

Initially I was working at 35KHz, but I also checked at 25K and could
see that the pulse train frequently increases by about 25%.
The problem I have, is although they are being generated the steps out
are reverting to some arbitrary value. Although Mach2 seems now to be
storing the value, what it puts out isn't what I set. I can get my 10V
max out if I adjust motor settings, but on closing Mach2 and
restarting, although the values in steps per unit & velocity haven't
changed, output voltage is down to 6V, re tune and it's back to 10V
for that session only.

Another problem is on jogging steppers, the steps output to spindle is
dropping?

One for Art to look at when he gets back.
Yep - I thought it might have been today, but not sure.

I'm going to update my controller/motherboard and was wondering
if an AMD Duron 1.47 ghz processor and 512 megs of ram will be
potent enough to run mach 1/2 ? i have always used athlons or
pentium 4's and don't really know what to expect from a duron. any
opinions would be greatly appreciated.
jeff,
I've got one AMD computer that works and one that doesn't. Its not
the processor... its something in the chipset. The one that doesn't
work is a gigabyte. The one that does is a spacewalkker or some such.

Re: mach 1/2 with duron processor ?

Hi Jeff,

I have been running all the mach software, including the latest
version on a PII 233 with 128mb ram and win 2000, it works perfectly.

Last week I got a chance to buy 5, HP Duron 1300mhz at a very good
price, so bought them, only to discover that for some reason the
pulse stream to the z axis wont send out a clean pulse, ive tried all
5, and they are all the same, yet as soon as i connect my xylotex
board back to the old 233, everything runs like a turbine.

I am waiting for Art to return from holliday to see if we can get to
the bottom of this, as if we cant Ill have to sell the machines if
they are no use for mach1/2

Cheers,

Reems.

Re: G-code in a macro:Needs more useful examples and docs

Lee Studley

Hi Todd,
I was wondering this also, at least can I call a function or similar
also, I think its a subset of VB scripting and can call some
predefined( not user defined (?)) routines Art has setup. The manual
covers some specific macros, buts its really murky if your trying to
do your own stuff. I'd like to see a bunch of real world examples of
macros for Mach2. (Actual scripts with all the content explained).

It'd be nice if we could post a 'library' of them in the files
section to help all of us.

Need opinions on Gecko wiring.

Hi
This may look like deja'vu as I just posted this on CAD CAM.

I know this is a big request. I'm getting ready to rewire my control
and have posted a wiring diagram in the files section called "dereks
wiring" . I'm hoping a few intrepid volunteers could take a look and
give me their opinion on this.
My current configuration is best summed up as the old " 10 pounds of
s--t in a 5 pound enclosure" . My system has suffered noise issues
from day one. I recently aquired a fairly large enclosure that will
hold all of the components including the motherboard so I decided
the time was ripe for new wiring.

What's not shown on the diagram are the caps that gecko recommends
on the power side of the drives and differential drivers and
receivers I'm using on the encoders. I think I have the single point
ground done correctly but I'm not sure if I handled the bridge
ground to cap properly. Using a ground rod next to the machine as
opposed to the wall outlet was suggested to me by a technician who
was installing a large CNC router at the shop next door.

I'm showing Alan Rothenberg's error reset controller that I haven't
been able to get working despite numerous efforts by Alan to get it
to work. Hopefully after all of this I'll have some success. The 5V
power supply is one that Alan supplied to me.

Lastly I'd like to thank Donald Brock for creating the original DXF
wiring diagram that I modified. Boy was that a time saver.

Thanks
Derek

The Mach 2 Manual.

dreamflyerbob2001

Just for point of reference. I printed it out on my HP 970 series
printer. Printed both sides. Then went to local Kinko's and they
bound it clear front cover, solid color back cover, and wire binding
for "lay flat" open. Cost was $5.35 which included sales tax.

It looks beautiful. A friend asked me if I was going to sell it on
EBay. No! It's mine!

It does look great.

I'm a KipWare user. You will have some difficulty when it comes to
cutting radiuses or circles. They only true post is a "Faunc
compatable" and it doesn't produce either an I or J for a radius
cut. Mach2 requires I or J other. You can fix this by buying their
gcode converter ( I forget the actual name).

to match mach1/2. I've made a few basic runs nothing fancy with
the program
seem real easy to used. just select the type of machine

blanks and out comes the code. Then I just load the file into
mach2 and run
the part.

The software even has a dxf converter that will take the drawing
and covert
to G code.

Just would like to know if anyone else on the list is using this
program?

Re: re converting to servo

Carl,

Dont forget that motor maximum speed is at zero torque (no load),
maximum power is at half that, so you will need to take the load into
account when doing the calculations.
