Re: MACH4 and Lathe Spindle encoder

Yes, it can work with an encoder or an index pulse.? Check this out:

Re: Gecko G540

Thank you Steve.? That's the information I was looking for.?

?

In fact I'm surprised that they are stating 10V for the input supply voltage since even rail to rail op-amps don't quite get to the rail unless they have some very expensive parts.? But I can see how it's harder to specify 12V and then have someone use a 12V wall wart that floats unloaded at 16V.

?

I've attached my reverse engineered schematic of the cheapie far east BoB that has PWM from the DB-25 pin 1.? The LM358 won't go down to zero either but then most VFDs tend not to turn the AC motors much below about 10% anyway so I doubt it matters.?? They also limit the output voltage to no more than 10V by using a 10V supply on the op-amp.

?

Partly why I went step/dir for my spindle AC/Servo and 1 RPM is trivial with a S1 M3 G-Code.

?

Thanks again

John

Well, sort of......

The circuitry works better at 10 or 12 volts, but it will function at 5 volts.

The issue is that the output range is limited to between approximately Gnd plus about 0.3 volts and Supply Voltage minus 0.6 volts. This does not change as you lower the supply voltage so the limitation gets worse percentage wise as the supply voltage is reduced.

If you need better results you could provide an isolated 12 volt supply and then use a resistor divider on the output to scale the range to 0-5 volts.

The circuit also uses an active filter to help smooth out the PWM frequency more than a capacitor alone would smooth it.

I realize this isn't completely a MACH question but many MACH users have G540's connected to their systems.

?

The VFD pins are the ones I'm wondering about.??? The specs say optically isolated PWM.? Is this as simple as an opto-isolator on Pin14 of the DB-25 and a capacitor connected to the output transistor to create the DC from a PWM output?

?

Instead of 10V (Max 12V according to the data sheet) to the VFD-10V input POS9 on the terminal strip if instead 5V was connected would an end user see 0-5V voltage for 0 to 100% PWM?

?

For connection to a DC motor spindle driver.

Thanks

Nothing that I noticed, but I didn’t really try to find any differences either.

Threading (once they finally made it work) was fine with either method.

I plugged in an ESP32 DevKit1 and came up with the screen that shows it's got problems being recognized.? Unplugged it.

Next I went to the Arduino web page and downloaded the older 1.8 version of the Arduino IDE.

It downloads the .exe installer and then I answered yes to the various device drivers near the end.

When it was done I plugged in the ESP32 DevKit1 again and this time it shows up as COM5.

Now the device is recognized and likely MACH3 won't have a problem.

Hi,

Trying to move my Mach3/Ess from Win XP to Win10, I get an "Error triggered" "Art Code 1" and "Art Code 9991" at the startup.
If I create a new profile by cloning my working profile, everything works fine the first start (even the Modbus logic) but the second time I get the error again.
If I uncheck "Modbus InputOutput Support" before Exiting evrything works as normal the next Start.

I reinstalled everything from scratch but still the same, seems to be a Modbus/Win10 problem...

Mach version is : 3.043.062

Any idea ?

Subject: [MachCNC] Forgot how to change spindle direction

?

Hi Everyone,

?

I haven’t used my mill in a while. I’m trying to cut some stock and noticed that my spindle is running backwards. How can I change the direction of rotation?

?

Thanks,

?

Terry
