CAM Software

I am researching CAM programs like VisualCAM, BobCADCAM,
DolphinCAM, Rams3D. I would appreciate any feed back on these or any
other CAM program. Basic drawing, stable tool path creation and post
processing to Mach2 are my requirements.

Hi

I have put the latest manual PDF into Files over here and will
delete the Master5 one when a few people have come over.

I will also change the reference in the documentation to point
people here.

Thanks for your efforts, Alan

RC7 Parallel Port Bug

Servo Wizard

Art,

Steve Blackmore discovered that RC7 has no PWM signal out put. I have
checked my development PC which I have RC7 installed in and it
appears as though RC7 is not capturing the parallel port/s. The
program opens with ports putting out MAX voltage.

Please all keep in mind that this forum might go away if Art is not
intrested in the move.

The reason for this new group is to move the Mach1-Mach2 issues here
so we can perserve the older messages on the Master5 group.

I don't expect we will get all the messages to move here imediately
but hopefull we can perserve whats left of the older messages that
might help someone.

Will wait to hear what Art thinks before we really push things over
here.

Art will still be the Head guy here and he will have the last work.

Hi;

Rather than me re-inventing the wheel, has anyone evaluated the
varoious utilities for converting raster images to vector ??

I am interested in this primarily to use MACH for engraving and
since it's a hobby the best balance of functionality & price are of
course important.

I'm not sure what features I should look for, I guess the ability to
clean up images, smooth curves etc would be useful, i guess they all
export in .dxf format which is compatible with MACH ??!

Any recommendations greatfully accepted !

Thanx

Re: one limit switch or two??

Robert Campbell

Thomas,

I use the same sensor for home and limit.

On my CNC router, I very seldom home my machine. I just position the router
to where I want my 0,0,0 point to be and do a G92 type command.

The limits take care of over travel.

Re: SoftLimits

Robert Campbell

Matthew,

I am not sure of the correct answer, but for soft limits on any system to
work, I would expect that you would need to home your machine to set a
reference point. You would need to start with some reference point.

will be the estop (such as in the case of using a 2nd parallel port)?

Re: 2 parallel port

Robert Campbell

George,

One parallel port can handle four axis. On our breakout board on each limit
axis we have two sets of screw terminals. One is labeled home and the other
is labeled limits. The screw terminal marked signal (sig) are connected
internally to one pin. Mach2 will know which direction the stepper motor was
going.

If you are using inductive proximity sensors the other two screw terminals
gives you a place to connect the other two wires. The breakout board provids
12 volts to power your inductive proximity sensors.

I noticed that using only 1 parallel port does not have enough pins
to handle all the limit/home switches for 3 axis and the solution is
to combine some limit switches. However, I found out that mach2
allows the use of 2 parallel ports which should provide more pins for
limit switches. A second parallel port requires me to buy a PCI
parallel port card and an additional parallel port break out board
(controller) like the www.pmdx.com. Can someone verify before I
purchase these items that the second parallel port for mach2 can be
used for additional limit/home switches?

Thanks,

Re: Proposed New Mach 3 + Grex installation

Thanks Chris

I though the servo drives were some form of +/- analogue input. If the
servo's are +/- 10 V it won't be difficult to switch the direction and pulse
signals to drive these.

However they have been repaired several times, are very messy, and one seems
to run off.

I have repaired much of the Anilam control, the switch mode PSU was down,
the screen was down, got these working, but have very low signals from the
CRT driver PCB so the monitor will only occasionally sync.

If anyone is interested, Anilam used their own expensive CRT units, however
the only thing special is that they invert the vertical sync pulse, if you
use another 74 series chip to re invert it, you can drive a standard
monitor. I will probably change the driver chips since if I can get it
working, it's worth a few hundred pounds to sell on. I don't have much
confidence it will stay working for long for long though being 15 years old.
AT least its not 1990's lead free jap pcb's that are very short lived.

Thanks for your reply, and thanks to Art, I think I have plenty of spare
parallel cards though knowing my luck they will all be ISA bus. I'll do a
parallel bus system first, but also buy the GRex so it has allocated space.

I was also looking at AJAX cnc controls, but after having their trial
software loaded, I don't like it, and boy are simple add ons a rip off.

I have a large VMC I have retrofitted with mach as well. Currently
I'm using Mach3 with the LPT control, and will upgrade to Grex some
time after the new dll plugin control for it is released. I'm not
familiar with your anilam control, but I'd bet your existing servo
drives are functioning and it's your controller that's going on the
frtitz? If so, you can keep all the existing servo drives etc and
just run some step/direction to +/- 10v analog cards that your servo
drives likely take as direction input. This is what I did using cards
from skyko technologies. www.skyko.com great price and great product
if you're servo drives take +/-10v signals. You can use the printer
port for step/direction signals for the time being, and install a Grex
later for the increased speed as I will be doing. I have a
DirectLogic DL-06 PLC for the numerous I/O that my VMC craves. If
you're in a pinch for a few more I/O through the LPT, you can get a
parallel port expansion card (with 2 ports) for under 20 bucks at
www.tigerdirect.com

Hope this helps!

I should also say, I have no 3 phase supply at my shop, this is being

For encoders I am looking at 2000 pulse differential A+, A-, B+,

Re: Breakout board

ernie

I recently purchased a breakout board from Bob Campbell. Service was great and it seems to be a quality board.

However, I tried downloading the SoundLogic.xml file (to get the pinout config) but the download puts an .hlml file name extension onto the file. Tried renaming, but the download doesn't seem to store in the correct format so Mach2 config does not recognize it, even though the xml file is in the MAch2 directory.. Any comments?

You will see a screen capture of it in the gallery too.
I have also made a simulation to try and show what one of the new features

Hi All:

Version 1.90.002 is online. It has..

1) Feedrate fix for slaved axis. The feedrate DRO was wrong on
realtime
feedrate when an axis was slaved.

2) Image class completely changed. This was done to speed up the
display
system, which now seems twice as fast
as before. Support for alphablended images , PNG,s and transparent
gifs
are
added as well, but untested. This image class shoudl aid in the
transparency
problems and background front to back issues. But this is an early
test.
You
may want to wait for some feedback on its
abilities before upgrading unless displays have been very slow for
you..

(Benny: Try your png alpha blends, let me kow if all works, and Ill
update
the Screen designer. )

Hey Everyone,
I was just cruising thru the photos section & came across VMax's
folders....... I must say, VMax..... Good looking installation on the
control cabinet & I REALLY like the ModIO Pendant...... Now I'll
have
to give Peter a call & see about the pendant stuff. I recommend
everyone go take a look at VMax's photos.

Thanks, Tim Bostic

ps. CRAP.... Why is it when I look at other peoples setups &
projects,
it ends up costing me money?!!!!!hehe!!!!

Re: Version 1.90.002 online.

Thanks Art, it does work, but as you suspected still needs a few tweaks.
I have posted a picture so as to show you what I mean.

Hi All:

Version 1.90.002 is online. It has..

1) Feedrate fix for slaved axis. The feedrate DRO was wrong on realtime
feedrate when an axis was slaved.

2) Image class completely changed. This was done to speed up the display
system, which now seems twice as fast
as before. Support for alphablended images , PNG,s and transparent gifs
are
added as well, but untested. This image class shoudl aid in the
transparency
problems and background front to back issues. But this is an early test.
You
may want to wait for some feedback on its
abilities before upgrading unless displays have been very slow for you..
