David,
That's not what Trump's trial was about really. It was about him
paying to have his affair covered up so it wouldn't look bad to
his supporters. He managed to commit felonies in order to do that.
This was not a political prosecution, though. Biden (or his
supporters) had absolutely nothing to do with it.
Aloha,
Celeste

? 1.? Do you trust your political leaders to have your best interests paramount in their actions?
No. All political leaders put their own interests first. But I expect political leaders to put their constituents interests 2nd, and the well-being of the entire country 3rd. When a political leader puts the interests of other countries ahead of their constituents and the wellbeing of their own country, that is a political leader who deserves zero support. 2.? Was the Trump trial verdict unexpected?
No. The evidence was overwhelming, even more than I expected to see before the trial started. Even with one of the jurors being a solid Trump fan (he had said his main source of news was from Trump’s Truth Social website,) the only conclusion that the jury could come to was guilty.
3.? Will the verdict effect the election?
Maybe. It’s clear that the Trump cultists didn’t bother to listen to the trial and the huge amount of evidence against Trump. (Just like they don’t listen to any other evidence showing how horrendous Trump has been, and how great the US is currently doing under Biden.) So Trump won’t lose any of his cultists over the trial. Now the people who already realized the evil of Trump, well they were already against Trump, the trial certainly won’t change that. A good portion of independents at this point, have realized how evil Trump is, the trial won’t change their mind. But there is still a significant amount of independents who vote once every 4 years, but pay very little attention to politics. At this point, they are actually undecided between Trump and Biden. Will the verdict change their opinion? Probably not, because most of these independents who don’t follow politics, also aren’t following the trial. But possibly as Trump’s guilt comes up closer to November, they may realize the depth of Trump’s lies and decide not to vote for him.
4.? Will you make a political donation this week?
No. I don’t donate to billionaires, and I am amazed at how many people financially worse off than I am do. I have only donated to one political candidate many years ago, and while he was a low-level millionaire, he was running a grass-roots campaign for national office and needed all the support he could against the far richer candidates he was running against.
5.? ?Will this situation change how you feel about the future of the US?
While I am glad to see justice done, and I think the conviction of such an obviously guilty person as Trump is important for the US moving ahead…..as I study the Bible more, I can’t deny that the growing movement of Christians who have recognized Trump as the literal antichrist of Revelation, have all the facts on their side. I think its highly likely Trump is the antichrist, which means it doesn’t matter what happens in the legal system, Revelations will play out as it was predicted to, and the US and entire world will be in turmoil. But I’m not 100% convinced, and I certainly hope that I’m wrong, and that Trump’s conviction will be the start of the end of the growing Christian Nationalism movement in the US, and that the US can continue all the dramatic improvements we’ve had under Biden.

? 1.? Should Victronix remove the blades from their Swiss Army knivees?
Sure, if they think that is the best business decision. I have no idea what Victronix is or what the issue with their blades in Swiss Army knives is.
2.? Who do you think was the most influential military officer of World War II?
I can’t even fathom a guess. Eisenhower? I think he was? military officer….although I’m not sure of what war.
3.? Do you think the Dow Jones Averages will finish over 40,000 on any given day this year?
Yes. With it at record high, I think 40,000 is very likely.
4.? Are you going to go on vacation this summer?
No plans. Although I guess anything is possible at the last minute.
5.? Should a president have the capability of rescinding an executive order posted by a predecessor?
Yes. If it is lawful for a president to issue an order, of course it would be lawful for the next president to rescind it. I think executive orders are way over used, but such is the time we live in.
1.? The Boy Scouts have proposed taking the word boy out of the name - what do you think of this? The might as well. They have allowed girls in for many years now, so since it’s co-ed, why continue calling it Boy Scouts? With the highest honor being an Eagle Scout, maybe change the base name to Fledgling Scouts.
2.? Was the death of the president of Iran an accident or deliberate action by someone unknown?
I think most likely it is accidental. There is certainly every reason to think it is accidental…..flying in bad weather in a mountain area. And while President Raisi was pretty powerful, and definitely hated…he was just a pale 2nd in command to Iran’s Supreme Leader. Sure, it would have been easy to take him out with some radar interference at a time when everyone would presume it was accidental, but for what benefit? The vice-president taking his place is rumored to be just as bad. And with Iranian elections known to be rigged and most voters not even bothering to vote because of the rigging, its safe to assume that whoever wins the replacement election will be just as bad. So while I can’t rule out the possibility of foul play, with their seeming to be nothing to be gained by his death, I think most likely it is accidental.
3.? ?What advice would you give your younger self?
? Good question. I turned out OK, and all my bad experiences were perhaps crucial learning experiences, so I’m not sure I should change anything. I would probably just hug my younger self and promise that things will get better, to just keep going.
4? ? Do you think Donald Trump will be convicted in the latest trial? ? Yes. The evidence showing his guilt is overwhelming, and their was pretty much no defense to rebute. I am certain he will be found guilty, but he will be giving a nothing sentence due to his stature, instead of prison time like anyone else who committed that crime would be doing. (Indeed, his former lawyer has already served prison time for his role in the crime that Trump is on trial for.)
5.? Will this presidential election signal an end to the Post War Generation in politics?
Post what war? Post Iraqi war? Or do you mean Baby Boomers? If Baby Boomers, no, Baby Boomers are living longer and healthier than ever. Gen X is the smallest generation, and rampant Covid denialism has reduced their number prematurely with deaths from COVID. The younger generations just don’t vote in the percentages, much less the numbers, that Baby Boomers vote in.

1.? The Boy Scouts have proposed taking the word boy out of the name - what do you think of this?
I think it is utter insanity.? Boys need to identify with men - to become men on their own.? We are becoming a nation of bedwetters - and bedwetters don't remain in charge for very long
2.? Was the death of the president of Iran an accident or deliberate action by someone unknown?
Unknown.? But a friend of mine from Bulgaria said it looks like a Russian operation to him.? On the other hand the helicopter was probably more than forty years old and maintenance may well have been very bad.
3.? ?What advice would you give your younger self?
Don't listen to people who tell you what to do - look out for yourself and figure out your own path.
4? ? Do you think Donald Trump will be convicted in the latest trial?
Possibly - but I am optimistic that any guilty verdict will be overturned on appeal - and a lot of different grounds.? The biggest is that he has not been charged with anything so far that was actually illegal under state law.
5.? Will this presidential election signal an end to the Post War Generation in politics?
In the sense that the Baby Boomers are aging out - I hope so.? We need new blood in the political process - continually recycling the same old people is not doing the nation any good.

?1.? Should Victronix remove the blades from their Swiss Army knives?
Wherever this silliness came from, please pass along to them that I resent having such ridiculousness?in front of the vision of my eyeballs!
I had a folding Boy Scout pocket knife around first or second grade. I have owned several knives at any given time since. I currently own about four fighters, a Crocodile Dundee Bowie my son?made for me, maybe five swords and machetes, a Viking battle axe made by that same sone, several folders and a good dozen throwers. I like knives. Leave the blade in the damn classic. 2.? Who do you think was the most influential military officer of World War II?
Churchill? Eisenhour? I like Patton's flair. MacArther's, too. I am really not coming up with any single example. Rommel fought a good fight.
3.? Do you think the Dow Jones Averages will finish over 40,000 on any given day this year?
No idea on this one. I have barely gotten to the point where I can semi-confidently generalize that up is good and down is bad.
4.? Are you going to go on vacation this summer?
Yes. Just I have done for every season for three years now. I am currently laid up in Albuquerque for repairs, but as soon as we can move I am headed back toward Western NY to move from my bus into a travel trailer. We will visit there, then in New Hampshire, then head west again through the northern states. We hope to visit?Yellowstone before the weather turns, then slide south toward the Southwest for the winter.
5.? Should a president have the capability of rescinding an executive order posted by a predecessor?
Has to be some room for checks and balances in that or things might get pretty confusing pretty quickly? Maybe he could propose it to a court or a Congressional oversight, but I think unilateral actions might just become a game of tennis.

Re: [m-scholars-and-scribes] Friday Five May 17.
David,
It's a silly question and I gave it the silly answer it deserved
(especially in light of the misspelling of Victorinox). The
question does not merit an answer.
Aloha,
Celeste

So Celeste, what would your answer to 1 be if it
had said Victorinox?

There is no maker of Swiss Army knives called Victronix.
Perhaps they make sound equipment?
2.? Who do

World War II?
General Dwight D. Eisenhower
3.? Do you
think the Dow Jones Averages will finish over 40,000
on any given day this year?
Very soon!
4.? Are you
going to go on vacation this summer?
Probably not. We've been caring for one of our dogs that
has become crippled (can't use her rear legs) so I don't
think we can leave her with a caretaker.
5.? Should a
president have the capability of rescinding an
executive order posted by a predecessor?
No. They can be challenged in the courts if they are
thought to break the law or thought to be
unconstitutional. That's adequate.
