Re: Odd PEC training outcome
Hi, you have a very high 76 second error that cannot be corrected by PEC.? Your primary 240 second error is quite low. How is guiding ??
?
Take the following with a grain of salt as I'm no expert,? but in my G11 with SLW loosening the back off screw of the SLW tends to lower the primary error but increases the 76 second one. May be the SLW is too loose ??

Odd PEC training outcome
Hi,
?
I just redid my PEC training of my G11G mount with PemPro last night and got some odd results. I am not sure what to make of the results so hoping one of the Group could have a look at the attached logs and venture an opinion.
?
The night sky was very clear and I had no issues with the mount (snags etc) that I know of.
?
Thanks,
Ken

Re: UPDATE Hand Controller Frustration
Kenn,

The stylus pens work much better than touch by hand for me as it is for most folks I would think. You can get a response with your fingers, but you need to be extra careful with centering the touch right over the intended button. Relative temperature between the nighttime air and body temperature may have something to do with it. But it also has to do with the static or electric charge on your fingertips which can vary hour by hour. You can get a dozen pens pretty cheap on Amazon and elsewhere and just keep a few within reach.
?
Good luck,
?

Re: UPDATE Hand Controller Frustration
New G11 owner here¡
When I got my G11 earlier this year I noticed that the HC didn¡¯t always respond the same way when I touched the screen. I bought some inexpensive iphone/ipad type styluses at Walmart to use with the HC and haven¡¯t had the problem since.

UPDATE Hand Controller Frustration
Since my last posting on this subject, I have an update.
During the Winter I was having the same issue, touch screen not responding, so I started unplugging the hand controller (HC) from the Gemini II and taking it inside house. When I plugged the HC back in and the touch screen responded. Now during the warmer months that touch response no longer worked so I reset the chip inside the HC and reseated the touch screen. Problem still existed because I continued to unplug the HC and taking it inside.?
?
One night the touch screen responded and I forgot to dethatch the HC and the next night again I had luck with the touch screen responding once again. So for the last two weeks I have left the HC plugged in and everything is 'fat and happy' with the touch screen responding.?
?
Fingers are crossed for my continued success with the touch screen responding.

Re: Goto the Moon way off
Thanks All
?
I haven't yet managed to look at asiair.? I spent some time on Tuesday evening and did manage to locate the moon - using the azimuth and altitude knobs. I foolishly thought I'd try a photo so I swapped the eyepiece out and couldn't find the moon again - no matter how hard I tried. But I'm happy to make a good start. It was a good way off after doing a goto.
Today I refined the altitude knob, and although I have an online compass it's seems a bit temperamental. The scope seems near to magnetic north so we'll see how we go
Anyway - I'll try later.

Losmandy Specific Version of PEMPro and Brian¡¯s Manual?
Jim Waters
I got a new imaging laptop and would like to take the opportunity to run PEMPro on my G11G L6 mount.? I downloaded release V3.10.09 from CCDWare.? Isn¡¯t there a specific version for Gemini-2 L6 mounts?? Also, where can I find the manual Brian put together.? Thx ------------------------ Jim W Phoenix, AZ. USA |
Re: G11G Gemini2 PHD2 autoguiding calibration jumps by more than 20px during east calibration
Nikul Suthar
I checked Dec axis clutch pad is clean and in perfect shape. I'll try to get a 30 minute guide logs with at least 3 seconds of guide camera exposures. I replaced my Celestron C9.25 to SkyWatcher Quattro 250P 1000mm focal length with same cameras and off axis guiding. I still have to run guide calibration on both the sides of meridian for calibration graph and do guiding assistance for more details about backlash, orthogonality and polar alignment error. I'll get back with these details after a day or two... On Wed, Aug 14, 2024, 9:16 PM John Kmetz via <jjkmetz54=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: First visual use of my G11G
I have used the ASI Air to guide my G11G.? ?My camera is an OAG, or like one, its the 2600mc DUO.? I have never gotten better guiding than about 0.6, often ranging 0.6-0.8.? ?I've tried some various agression and min move settings, but didn't seem to have much of an impact.? I could certainly do more.? ?Your comments and others ive read here make me think I may have a mechancial issue I need to figure out to get the guiding down.? When trying to guide the C11, I could not get any guiding below about 1.5.? I think I may need more counterweight for photographic use for that though.??
?
Your comment about the Nexus is an interesting one.? I have a Nexus for my Dob.? ?I assume you put the motors in sideral tracking, then just loosen the clutch, push to, tighten the clutch and it tracks from there?? ?That may be handy for quick sessions.? I've also had my eye on the Losmandy alt-az mount though....

Re: First visual use of my G11G
?
Brian,
?
The G11 was designed to carry the C11 SCTs so it should be pretty stable and even more stable with the Losmandy Folding HD (FHD) tripod. I have used the G11 with a C14 as have many others here with great success. Some of the best highest quality planetary images in the world have been taken with a G11 and C14.?
?
Not sure what you are using to guide the G11 with but a 130mm should be easy to guide well unless it is a very slower OTA. The bespoke Parallax/ AT130mm f/6 SDT I own is heavy and it guided well with a laptop running PHD2 and is working just as well with an ASIAIR Plus using a piggybacked 50mm f/4 Stellarvue guide scope and an ASI290MM mini guide cam. You should see tracking error under 0.5 seconds of arc on a clear night, better even if the air is steady.?
?
If you like to push the scope around get a Astro Devices Nexus DSC and the matching Losmandy encoders. This is the ultimate PUSH-TO setup with a well balanced mount. You can just free the clutches and the scope glides anywhere you push it to with 2 fingers. The Nexus DSC just makes it so much easier to find an object.? I like this way of observing so much I bought an old GM8s and added the encoders and Nexus DSC for pure visual work like at outreach and public star parties.?

Don't bother to read up on ASIAIR's All-Sky polar alignment, just follow the directions on your phone and it works.? One catch is that you need to set the Move speed in the Gemini 2 to 300-400 or the mount will not move fast enough for ASIAIR to avoid a time-out on the ASIAIR Move command during the All-Sky PA.? The rest just works assuming your ASIAIR has been configured correctly and the settings accurately reflect the scope, mount, cameras etc.??

Re: G11G Gemini2 PHD2 autoguiding calibration jumps by more than 20px during east calibration
Some of the calibration were good others interrupted for star lost.? I'v seen many backlash clearance steps in some calibration. Are you sure that the clutch pads are clean and free of oil ??? ?On the other hand, you should guide longer, the guide segments are too short to look at error spectrum.
