g11 control box
Hello, Bob Hancey, here, well the rehab of G11 for SVAS continues (previous topic), have managed to get power to unit. The newest problem, the control (handheld) lights up, but the screen is so dim as to be essentially unreadable (looks like opening screen and is blue). The cable is old, but apparently able send a signal. Using Occam's Razor the most likely problem is the cable, but failing that, my next conclusion is the control box is the problem.? However, given my limited insight into this issue I am soliciting any other possible explanations for this issue or solutions.? In an attempt to localize issue will connect my control box and a newer cable (separately) to mount is see if this gives me idea where the problem is. After that I am just lost in space. Respectfully submitted Bob

Perhaps your mesh network or WiFi adapter does not allow Gemini to see the DHCP server from where it is. Try plugging in Gemini ethernet into the router with no intervening WiFi or mesh to see if DHCP starts working. You can also allocate and assign Gemini a static IP address on your subnet, so DHCP will not be required. As for USB vs Ethernet differences with PEC -- this is true, there are these and other differences between USB and Ethernet, and some are big. Ethernet has a lot more capabilities, is faster, and more reliable over long connections. If you want to use USB, you'll need to accept that there will be some functional limitations with that connection. That's just the reality. Regards, ? ?-Paul |

Re: Help with PemPro on G11/Gemini
Brett That was just a suggestion, not? Please understand, we can't diagnose and fix something we aren't in front of. We can only suggest things to try without being right there. We have literally thousands of these units working with ethernet. It's extremely unlikely there's something wrong with the unit, but we are of course happy to take a look at it.? If you want to submit a support ticket please by all means do that and we can take it from there On Tue, Aug 30, 2022 at 2:26 PM Bret Stott via <bstott_98=[email protected]> wrote:

It does not?seem reasonable that Losmandy asks customers to?purchase?additional routers/equipment?to further debug a brand new?unit that is defective from best as?I can tell. ?If there some debug dump that I can send or some other settings I can try, please let me know. ?Otherwise, I¡¯d like a pretested, new Gemini?replacement ¡ these?are very expensive units?and should work as described and?this one has at least two known issues ¡ª?1) Unable to access all functions via USB and 2) DHCP is not working.? Brett I'd try a?couple different combinations on power cycle, enabling/disabling DHCP ? Another option could be getting a microRouter Running out of ideas here. It works on plenty of Geminis.? Losmandy may want to take a closer look -- you now have at least two users that inexplicably cannot access all functionality via USB but can when using (direct) Ethernet. I was referring to your comment on the 'erratic behavior', not the availability of features. Understood on the PEC part >>>? Any issues with Gemini not being plugged in to the mount motors to try out the experiment and see if DHCP works? ? I don't have a 100' ethernet cable sitting around. No, just bring your hand controller along and when you cold start, put it in terrestrial tracking so you don't have to listen to it beeping. Just remember to re-set back to sidereal when you put it back on your mount ? As for the suggestion of connecting the Gemini directly to my home router, I will need to disconnect the Gemini 2 unit from the mount to do this. ? Re: Issues With Losmandy Polar Scope and QHY PoleMaster
Jim,
I have an i5 NUC 8 system and it shows the same Device Security error but it is related to Core Isolation (ala Virtualization security protection) and not due to the QHY system. I have the 168C QHY and Polemaster units and they seem to be working fine for me on my older generation NUC.? The drivers are just under a year old so new ones are needed given their camera releases. Have you tried the beta drivers which require some cameras to be firmware upgraded? Agree it is a pain if they have platform support issues with the drivers - good luck. Ken |

My laptop has an Intel 11th Generation Core i7-11800H CPU.? I am not sure where Core Memory Isolation begins.? My laptop now tell me I have a security issue.

Re: Losmandy GM8/GM11 Encoder Kit
This type of encoders are great for turning manual Alt-Az mounts or even dobsonians into semi-goto systems.? For a GEM, once you have goto capability its cost and hassle is hard to justify. OTOH, a retrofitting kit for turning the G11G2 into a G11G-EC would be great!!

Re: Metaguide?
Hi Michael >>>Are there any Metaguide enthusiasts among us?? I had a recent few months where I used metaguide intensively, both to see if it was better than PHD, and also to learn its approach to guiding (it's also a great way to fine-tune collimation) overall I found the quality of guiding might be about the same/slightly better than PHD2, but it was not as easy to set up for automation. I couldn't get it to guide correctly after meridian flips (at least, automatically), it had a hard time finding guidestars when not being attended, and overall the software experience just felt more rough than PHD.? I asked about in the forums CN etc. several times and found very few users and little to no response on my questions ? I eventually reverted to PHD2, just fouhd?it was more reliable for automation It's kind of a shame because metaguide's core idea and basic results seem promising.? Did I mention it's quite good for collimation? ?? On Mon, Aug 29, 2022 at 10:01 PM Michael A. Covington <astro@...> wrote:
