Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
Hi Henk & all, Some input about these plates - this is not exactly what Henk was asking about (we have a separate discussion going) but it's helpful context: I spent some time with Scott looking at

Re: G-11 Gearbox Replacement
I ordered 2 new ones from Losmandy.? They confirmed that they do use metal rivets in them now.? I may try to repair the broken one as you suggest Michael. Russ

Re: Tucked Motors Retrofit
Yes of course it is possible many of us have done this and it works great!? Scott even gives the mount the once over, tune up and a lube job while in the shop. Call and ask, all you have to do is
Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
No once clamped properly (as I check and double-check religiously), the OTA is rock solid.? The triangular shape holds it in the base just fine.? You are making a problem where there is none while I

Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
No the dovetail is very long so you don't need much pressure to keep the OTA in place.? No stop needed whatsoever.? My problem is that the scope popped out because I had it clamped against the base

Tucked Motors Retrofit
I have a 2008 G11-1. Is it possible to convert to the tucked-motor arrangement? If so what is entailed in this - new gearbox with original motors? Like everything Losmandy, I'm sure it will be

Re: GM8 lubrication
Order this stuff from Amazon, it is the BEST. Never runs and makes a mess, never dries out and gums up the mount, stays soft even when extremely cold. Order the one with PTFE NOT silicone! <<-- Click
Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
Henk, Looking closer at your picture of the dovetail I cannot see a thumbscrew or similar to prevent the dovetail from sliding out completely. This is not the case with the Losmandy made dovetails,

Re: Polar alignment scope on the G11
Dave, There are many DIY ways to almost solve the problem. But if you actually use the Losmandy polar scope as many of us do you should just spend the money and buy the Losmandy illuminator. The

Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
Henk, Dump that junk dovetail and buy a solid dovetail from ADM or Losmandy. It is not the fact that it's a Vixen size dovetail so much as it is a poorly made and possibly out of spec dovetail. The

Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
Dave, If you load a Losmandy saddle oriented with the saddle vertical you should always rotate the DEC axis to horizontal with the clamp(s) "up" to unload the saddle clamp(s) and then give a final
Re: Thread size for polar scope illuminator
Hello, I am in the process of producing and selling clear polycarbonate plugs for the polar scope illuminator mounting hole. These plugs will allow one to simply use a red light to illuminate the

Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
That'll work great Dave! I'm using the DVA, and have the camera bracket "hung" on the front end of my DA14 main bar. One thing about using the clamp-on is when I upgraded my guide scope to a top

Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
I have never used those extruded type dovetails. Only solid aluminum bars. But since getting my new 811, I only use Losmandy D style bars. -- SonnyE Sonny's Youtube Channel (

Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
Hi Henk, Looking at your photo's close up, it almost looks like the 'step' on the 'movable' side of the vixen is actually higher than the matching 'fixed' side of the saddle. Is that really true? If

Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
The mount must accomodate? the scope, not the other way around.? How am I going to use it on my AVX if I put a Losmandy shoe on it? It is stable enough once you know it.? Now that I am warned I

Hi Mike... I checked my version of the Losmandy polar scope off my 15 year old G11 (for which I also am missing the illuminator), and I was surprised to find it is actually a metric thread, Scott is

Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
I agree with Paul. I use Losmandy style dovetails on all of my rigs except an 80mm refractor, but even that one the Vixen dovetail is solid and well machined. We have way too much money into this
