Re: Telescope slip in the clamp

Dave,

If you load a Losmandy saddle oriented with the saddle vertical you should always rotate the DEC axis to horizontal with the clamp(s) "up" to unload the saddle clamp(s) and then give a final tightening to the saddle clamping knob(s). If you do this routinely no slippage will happen even when the air temp drops 80F from day to night time. It also pays to check the saddle knobs as the air temp falls and to use a stopper screw on both ends of the dovetail as supplied with every new Losmandy brand dovetail. I've seen all makes of saddle slip but IME this is a user error or cheap cast or extruded dovetails as supplied with the many different Synta produced scopes like Celestron, Meade, SkyWatcher etc. If you are using these inexpensive dovetails sell them and buy Losmandy brand or ADM brand dovetails which are solid bars made to the correct dimensions.?
