To change the safety limits for your setup, you want to be at the scope.
you slew your telescope to one side of the pier with your camera pointing
towards the earth, and get it to within 1-2"

True. They're expensive but you get sun reflective coatings outside and dew suppression rubberized coatings on the inside. Plastic inside alone would provide nucleation sites for dew.?

in half with the silver side out and asked wifey to sew up the ends making
