Hi, where can I get a direction video/manual of the mount?

Thanks!

Hi David

Nothing has changed in this regard

all the important stuff (transactions, orders, etc.) are all handled via HTTPS

Actually the G11S is still available:??

When I go to and click on mounts, the G11S is not shown.? How would anybody find that page that you linked?

It's good news that the system is still available!? I recommend putting it up on the same page as the rest so potential customers can find it.? I think there is a market for the G11S (just read the CN threads, and in this thread the opinion of the OP).

Ah very good!? That's a nice looking page, and the G11S is listed indeed.? Nice.

I don't know why I missed it, maybe because I subconsciously started ignoring large advertisement banners.

I agree that the G11S needs tinkering.? This is about the worm gear, about which there are tons of messages by many on this board for various issues.? The G11S is very simple mechanically and is a mechanical beauty with a fantastic tripod as solid as a pier yet fairly light weight.? It has a good AP load capacity.? And it's American made, which is important to me.

Instead I first used the manual setting circles (works OK but takes practice and good alignment) and later got an EQStar goto system that I control from Ekos on my Pi, remote logged in from my Galaxy Tab A.? It works but there's a learning curve.? I am still learning and have had good success recently.? My issues were not just with learning EQStar and Ekos but also a dying jump starter and imbalance that were causing problems that I did not understand at the time.? EQStar may turn out to be all I need.

Meanwhile I started looking at OnStep and am now building an OnStep controller with COTS components.? I enjoy this part of the hobby.? Compared to EQStar, OnStep has more features depending on what board you build.? The acceleration is more gradual than EQStar, which probably fixes a bunch of issues that I had.? With OnStep you can take control of your own system if you know Arduino programming.? It is quite modular and has good support from 2 people on the OnStep groups.IO board but it's not for everyone.

Re: Considering buying a G11 mount for astrophotography.

My Losmandy G-11 returns sub-arcsecond guiding most nights, and with good polar alignment, would give acceptable unguided 5-min subframes with a 80mmm f/6.8 scope.? I couldn't be happier with the system, and would never go back to a lesser mount.? Superb machining, and quality throughout, and very durable. I set up every night in less than 30 mins, and it performs flawlessly. Can I tinker with it? Sure I can, and I have found it very easy to maintain and adjust. I've read the same stories about the G-11, but I am happy to say, that hasn't been my experience.

Nicholas,

Before my G11G with the Gemini 2 unit I had an Ioptron CEM60 which I returned due to unresolved vibration issues. In comparison, the Losmandy product is far more sturdy and will probably last for decades. On my first setup I learned the mount basics in less than 2 hours. The Losmandy videos on YouTube show you how to operate the Gemini controller with ease. Most folks have the Gemini 2, but many older Gemini units are still around and working well.? Plus the support forum has some great folks who will guide you through any common issues. One of the big pluses to the Losmandy mounts are that they are modular, and you can switch out controllers and motors for repair or trouble shooting without sending the whole rig back to the factory. I've been doing AP with mine for about 3 years now right out of the box without any mechanical repairs.?

Regards,

John

Re: Counterweight down setup??

Henry,

I think the GM8 dovetail has a unique bolt spacing...but I'm not at home right now to verify that.? It's unlikely a GM8 sized spacer would fit a larger G11 or Titan properly.??

Losmandy makes an RA extender for G11.? I do not know what the full Titan size requires....Brian will know or can find that out.??

The group could use a table showing for what mount versions, what spacers or extenders are needed to achieve a full RA rotation.??

____speaking of RA rotation ability____

Just a curious observation....on older non tucked motor type G11s....

I did notice that there is a slight difference between the older CG11, and the newer G11, in the angle where the RA motor is mounted.? The CG11 mounts the RA motor about 10 degrees below horizontal, while the newer G11 mounts the RA motor straight out horizontal.? Perhaps the lower angle allows further rotation before the DEC would bump the RA motor.? I'll attach a photo of each showing this difference.? The CG11 front polar scope cover has a flat front surface...the newer G11 has the fancier edge dimpled cut front cover type.?

Stay well,
Michael

Re: Considering buying a G11 mount for astrophotography.

Hi Nicholas,
Welcome to the group!
You've come to the best place on the web to do your research and inquiries.
I don't know anything about the Onstep. I'm more of an original system is best kind of guy.
I own a GM811G HD, with the Gemini II control. Love it!

When you get something someone else has modified, such as adding an Onstep system, it makes it complicated because you have to seek advice from others with that system, and here, for example, to figure things out.
Scott Losmandy and Brian both advised me when I picked up my mount at the factory, "Just use it as it is, don't mess with it." Sage advice, my mount has been great for me! (Born 04-Feb-2020)
Like anything, there is a learning period. Once you grasp the methods, these are really outstanding mounts.

I've been able to add some things, a 12" extension, hand knobs for quick assembly, the RAEXT kit, And last night adjusting in my Guide Scope piggy backed to my main telescope, and customize my 811 to exactly the very best mount for me that I could hope for. I'm 70, and I have to pack out my mount and set it up, then pack it back in. So having it in sections that are easily moved and handled has given me a great mount.
No other I know of offers these abilities for the owner to make the mount work for you. And not you for the mount.

These guys are your best source for the right answers.
I spent a couple of months reading here and asking questions before I called up Tanya to get my mount.
Since I live ~20 miles away, I was able to go and pick up my GM811G at the factory and meet them in person.
And since my entire interest is DSO, Nebula specific, I got the HD tripod for extra stability.

There is nothing lacking in a Losmandy mount, nor the Gemini II control system.
