Russ years back i got a local welding shop to source scrap pipe I think it was 1/2" wall, 10~12inch dia metal pipe....weld a base and top (drill bolt holes to match Losmandy MA and base bolts)
Added some gusset ribs (which were too long) .....and powder coated black.? Asked them to non prioritise do it when they have no other work.? Second hand scraps OK?? Like top Plate 1/2" bottom plate 3/4 inch
Now of course setting the pier height is an issue you need to get right.?? I would have done it shorter and use .? But this raises the cost.? My pier cost was $900 Aud? (8 years plus back) and weight a huge amount.....But was perfect....I left a decent top plate hole to add builders sand if I had resonance.?? I tried to do natural resonance freq cals but it was beyond me, my guess the natural resonance was 1/4 wave of pier height.
Suffice to say it was a battleship way over kill but a beauty???
A cheaper alternate was a concrete pier with rods to set into it for top plate? Of course the double plates to adjust for level is completely not needed
FWIW.?
