Re: Favorite ultra portable antenna for use with tx500
I got the new rig out to the park last weekend for a few hours. I mostly used the qrpguys tri-band (20/30/40) antenna. This turned out to be a great match for the radio. 3 bands, switchable, all

Re: Going deaf. Need advice as to gear for digital with the TX-500¡
I have used my TX-500 for FT8 with good results using cables that came with it and wiring audio into the Left side input for audio in and out to a laptop and a Raspberry Pi. Also works for CW using

Check the Resonant Sleeve Dipole ( aka end-fed-dipole)? My SK friend K4TWJ swore by it for a quick Hotel Room antenna, poked out of a Window! Here is some info: http://www.n5ese.com/rfd.htm

Re: Cold weather ops
Space is your friend.? Had similar issues when operating too close to the antenna.? Stray RF affected the cat control during digital ops.? Moving? the radio one park table away from the antenna
Re: Cold weather ops
Sounds very much like RFI on the mic input. The radio is very sensitive to it when the CMR is engaged. I've had similar issues here.

Re: Cold weather ops
Cold wise, i operated st 26¡ãF the other day and had no issues. The display was slow to change when i changed volume, TXd, or changed frew; but, thats expected when its on the frosted ground.

Re: Cold weather ops
If you haven't already, I recommend put a large toroid ( or a coiled? loop) with a few turns of coax in your feed line, in case your antenna is using the cable as a counterpoise!Sent from my Galaxy

To eliminate RFI as an issue, try it in cold weather hooked to a dummy load. How does the audio sound then on a second radio? If it¡¯s fine then you know it¡¯s an antenna rfi/grounding issue with

I second the ZM2! ?No batteries, easy, with incredible range of tuning. ?Not automatic, but tuning is very quick and simple. ?EMTECH should do a bad antenna challenge with it. ?Gutters, fences,
