Sounds very much like RFI on the mic input. The radio is very sensitive to it when the CMR is engaged. I've had similar issues here.

Cold wise, i operated st 26°F the other day and had no issues. The display was slow to change when i changed volume, TXd, or changed frew; but, thats expected when its on the frosted ground.
