Re: Lab 599 TX-500PRO

One example that I can think of right away is aviation in Papua New Guinea. ATC there requires constant contact with all the airplanes flying there, despite the country¡¯s lack of infrastructure. So accordingly, all aircraft must be equipped with HF radios to stay in touch with ATC.?

My mil radio buddies and I have been saying this for a long time, and it's encouraging to see the US military for one taking a fresh look at HF as a supplement and complement to other means of communication. ? For example, here's a video I've linked on my website - "The HF Renaissance in the US Army":

We need "belt AND suspenders" - multiple lines of back up and to maintain the skills needed to deploy HF anywhere, anytime.

Re: Lab 599 TX-500PRO

Starlink is just as reliable as the internet. Now, let that soak in for a minute or so. To be sure in a time of need, stand alone communication is a must. I'm not saying starlink or internet shouldn't be used, just not the only tool in the box.?

Re: Lab 599 TX-500PRO

Bob,

You've made valid points. However Starlink requires special expensive equipment and subscription fees. To me it's about backup comms. What happens if Starlink is taken offline on purpose, or due to a CME. Just saying.?

I'm really curious what these "professional applications" might be,
since in so many parts of the world the use of HF radio for off-grid
communications has been replaced by satphones or portable satellite
radios.?? Just last week I heard about a sea rescue being discussed on
the Maritime Net? so I googled to find out more details.? It turned out
the incident was reported and help dispatched via Starlink, not HF radio.

Over the years some very cool portable HF radios were made by companies
such as Spilsbury and Tyndall, JRC, SGC and others when the only way to
communicate back to a base camp or call for help was via HF.? They would
have loved something with the performance and features of the
TX-500PRO!?? But who does that today?

Re: Lab 599 TX-500PRO

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Does the PRO say anything about including a battery pack? It looks like the PRO and regular are the same price? I thought I read that someone said the PRO includes a bat pack?

The PRO description seems to emphasize the waterproofness¡does it say anything about the PRO battery pack being more waterproof than the ¡°regular¡± pack?

Re: New Firmware v1.16.06

Try entering the frequency in Hz (7 digits with no decimal). Alternatively, download from the radio, save the file, then edit and upload again.

Well, I was/am the ginny-pig OM's.

And yes I was able to load up the memory channels from my Manjaro (archlinux) install. <- Groovy !

This seems a good idea, I just don't know which PC application can be used for this purpose.

Does anybody has more information?

Update: I just saw that Lab599 posted the corresponding Windows software:
TX-500 Memory cells programming application v1.02 (Win64)

Care to share the file for CB channels you made ... it might be a great way to test things and get started with this new software.

TIA *if* you choose to share.

Stephan and all,

I re-downloaded and re-installed the firmware and now the memory editor is working as it should. Never had a problem with firmware downloads. However, I am going to guess that since I skipped FW 15 and the fact each firmware is a little larger that there may have been some junk or corrupted data in the ram space beyond where FW 14 was written. So maybe when I re-installed FW 16 the corruption was over-written with good data. I dunno and don't care as it works properly now.

Re: Lab 599 TX-500PRO

I guess the main target of this PRO version are commercial applications with a simplified channel-mode UI and the included battery pack.

Not interesting for the typical ham, at least not for me.

Hi Pete,

The resolution of the frequency field is in Hz, but not a fraction thereof (see the column header).

I have no idea why you get?TRX NOT RESPONDING. Mine worked perfectly from the beginning. Only tried it on Windows 10.

I would experiment with entering some data manually on the radio first and read it afterwards with the software.?

Re: New Firmware v1.16.06

Tim's note here led me to discover that you cannot enter periods into the memory editor. You also must enter 8 digits.
For example: I entered 10116000 in the editor, chose channel 2, CW and Pre then pressed UPDATE CHANNEL and finally WRITE TRX.
It wrote it properly 10.116.000 to memory slot 2 in TX-500. However, when I press READ TRX I am still am getting TRX NOT RESPONDING.
No sure why I cannot read memories. I have not tried filling 23 memories as that should not be necessary.
So in essence to write don't use period and be sure to enter 8 digits.

Maybe if we are lucky,? we can try the pro version of the firmware with a simple download and revert back to the standard version.
