Hi Trevor, To reliably get rid of this problem, just add a CMC at the BNC of your TX-500, or reduce the power, as Pete M3KXZ suggested. |
Re: SSB on 10m - strong feedback not heard on other bands
Actually Trevor, I see you're using 1/4 wave vertical, not EFHW - I got mixed up with the earlier post! Still could be RF getting on the coax though. On Wed, 1 Feb 2023 at 07:52, Pete Millis <pete.millis@...> wrote:

Re: SSB on 10m - strong feedback not heard on other bands
What happens if you try turning the power down to say 10%? This might give you an idea whether the problem is RF feedback or not. Also, do you have a choke on the coax, or are you allowing the coax to take the place of a counterpoise? If the coax is working as counterpoise, then so is the rig and everything else attached to it. 73 de M3KXZ On Wed, 1 Feb 2023 at 03:03, Trevor Larson - N6TJL - 3163412 <trevlarson@...> wrote:

Re: SSB on 10m - strong feedback not heard on other bands
I'm wondering if I've run into this same problem. I'm using a 1/4 wave vertical with 2 tuned elevated radials.? I ran into an issue on 15, 12, and 10m SSB when I would key-down the speaker mic and the radio would start transmitting noise at full power. I can't replicate the problem on 20m or 40m.
I first had this happen on 15m with the stock mic. I then swapped that out for my headset and had the same problem.? I ended up moving to 20m for my POTA activation. On a different occasion on 15m I started with the headset and had the problem.? I switched to the speaker mic and the problem was gone and I made 30 good QSO's on 15m. When the problem occurs I have CMR turned on.? When I turn CMR off, the problem seems to get 95% better, although I can tell by the meter there is still some noise transmitting when I'm not talking.? (And without CMR I don't seem to get much power out on SSB).? In all cases the antenna is connected by 25 feet of coax and isn't directly next to the radio. When the problem is occurring the SWR is always low.? See picture below - the mic is keyed down and I'm not talking and there's 11w of noise being transmitted.? I don't understand why my problem would be intermittent - all with the same equipment... Any thoughts? Thanks & 73, - Trevor, N6TJL |
Re: Tuner for tx500
I've aquired and field tested mat 705. I was satisfied with the results, although my antena got lost in the bushes. Mat 705 have latching relays and don't need to be powered after tuning. It don't have flesh interface and have to be used with some triggering circuit. About 3.3v at least have to be put between ground (sleeve) and key (tip) to turn it on. Then start (ring) have to be pulled to the ground for 0.2s to start tuning. |

Yes. That is the original design intent.? On Fri, Jan 27, 2023 at 23:29 David - KO4DKN <KO4DKN@...> wrote:

Re: Tuner for tx500
Hi Joshua,
Thanks a lot for your explanations! So it seems the firmware 1.5 did the trick and the current 1.6 should be at least as good, I assume. I also heard good things about?newdiytech.com, mainly because he is one of the certified sellers?of the?(tr)usdx. In your ATU-10 post, you state that you used a?9:1 UNUN, 35¡¯ radiator wire and a counterpoise hanging straight down. How long was this counterpoise and was it elevated? I will probably use the tuner without an UNUN, or a small 1:1 at the tuner RF input. The radiator will be an inverted-L, using my 6m glass fiber mast. The main reason I want to try this tuner is because it allows to quickly switch the band, e.g. from 20m to 12m, which can be handy for S2S contacts while doing SOTA. And now with the high SFI, the higher bands are in good shape for DX and therefore I want to try a shorter radiator for a flat radiation pattern. I usually use my very versatile 7-band EFHW antenna that allows to change two band groups with one switched coil. Re: Tuner for tx500
Stephan,
I have a T1 and the ATU-10. If you care to read a bit about my experience and testing with it check out my post here:??Please note this is a link to the second "update" posting, link to the original is at the top of that page. I do recommend the ATU and as you point out, it is very handy to setup at the antenna feedpoint. One advantage being to reduce feedline coax impedance mismatch loss. You can see I purchased mine from newdiytech.com and have have no complaints about build quality. Here is a link to where I purchased mine:?https://newdiytech.com/products/atu-10-atu10-qrp-by-n7ddc-atu-10-the-tyny-qrp-automatic-antenna-tuner Joshua KO4AWH |
Re: Tuner for tx500
Hi Dave,
The ATU-10 is an interesting tuner, because it supports automatic RF sensing, so you can mount it directly at the antenna feed point and don't need to reach over and press a button when changing frequency. After reading so many horror stories about the quality, until now, I hesitated to order one. Where did you get your working one? 73 Stephan |
Re: Amp for Lab599, TX500
I own the PA500 and as with all gear there are pluses and minuses I've encountered a couple issues while extensively using the PA500, but I like it so much, i bid a crazy amount and was outbid on the expedition version I'm not crazy - a $175 amp seems like s great value, let's see what users report |
Re: Amp for Lab599, TX500
VE3EGA,
To clarify, the QRPstore pack includes the TX-500 in addition to the amp, battery, and frame. DL4KA (the guy in Germany) didn't set the price for that package. That was set by the QRPstore. I would personally buy the Amp and Radio and pick my own battery, though. I have owned the PA-500 amp for over a year now and I would argue that the build quality and engineering are on par with Elecraft. |
Re: Questions of the TX-500
Glen,
Answer to your questions: 1. Yes you can use another mic - I use a FiFine (Internet PC Mic) and the connector accessory (Search this group) 2. DigiRig have the adaptor and interface for digi modes! 3. I believe its 4 Ohms (d/l the manual!) 4. VOX - of course! 5. Talk to HRO about Warranty etc 73 |
