Hello to all. Mid-December and I finished the 18650 removable lithium cell battery for the Lab599 Discovery TX-500 transceiver.

The Discovery TX-500 is an excellent transceiver, but until today it did not have a sufficient independent power source. During the two months of development, many test samples were printed from different materials. It turned out to be an excellent battery with decent characteristics in the transceiver form factor. Charging from any source 12.6 volts 1-2A. Thickness 25mm. Weight approximately 500 grams (with 9 pieces of 18650 installed). Assembled according to the scheme 3s3p.

Depending on the tasks, you can install 3pcs, 6pcs. or 9pcs. 18650 format batteries. Batteries with a capacity of 3500mAh will give you 3.5Ah, 7Ah and 10.5Ah, respectively, which gives at least several days of autonomous use of the device. The battery is attached to the transceiver with 4 screws, in the threaded holes provided by the manufacturer. To supply power to the transceiver, the contacts located on the back of the transceiver are used. You will no longer need any wires. Charging is done via the GX12 connector. The battery has a charge-discharge controller BMS. If you supplement the system with a small 20W solar panel, you will get an almost unlimited autonomous power source.
A few words about the body material, this is a novelty on the plastics market ¨C a composite based on Petg plastic with fiberglass filler. This is an engineering thermoplastic, which allows it to be used for tasks that require increased strength and wear resistance of end products. The material has a pleasant texture, similar to softtouch. This plastic is used for the production of instrument cases, protective covers, containers for various purposes, parts of mechanisms, functional products for outdoor placement.
Operation is possible down to -45 degrees. Now I will say a little about the future prospects of this development. The battery is the first cube of the system that I want to implement with my fellow radio amateurs. On the additional battery cover, I provided the same contacts as on the transceiver, so that the next cube is connected to the battery and receives voltage from it.

It turns out such a set of cubes that you make based on your operating conditions ¨C the main cube is of course the TX-500 transceiver, then the battery cube, then the 50W power amplifier cube and the last cube is the automatic tuner.
You combine the necessary cubes yourself, for example, if this is a short trip for 1 hour to the park, then you take the transceiver and battery, if the antenna is random, then you can take the tuner with you, if this is an trip for the whole day, then you can take it optionally either power amplifier, or tuner (for random antennas), or amplifier + tuner. The desired use case is up to you. Perhaps it will be possible to implement a power amplifier and an automatic tuner in one case, we are also working on this option.
