I found an interesting information on www.karta.org.pl about
archival Volhynia and Eastern Galicia sources. Here is my translation
from Polish:


With effort of The Head Office of State Archive in Warsaw and State
Archives Committee Of Ukraine in Lviv came out first part of guide-
book to the Polish and Ukrainian archival sources titled: Volhynia-
Eastern Galicia 1943-1944. A Guide to the Polish and Ukrainian
Archival Sources, vol. 1.
Publisher's purpose was to possibly full presentation of archival
sources, kept in collections of Polish and Ukrainian archives, which
may make the grandwork for objective describing of events on Volhynia
and Eastern Galicia during 1943-1944 period. During researches on
Polish collections, not only state archives, but also several church
archives, libraries, archives of associations and social
institiutions were taken into consideration. Ukrainian site has made
similiar researches at its state archives including central archive
in Kyiv and Lviv and regional archives.
Main part of sources included in guide are materials preserved in
Eastern Archive of KARTA Center.
In this guide there are descriptions of 155 archival collections
preserved mainly in Polish and Ukrainian state archives. Essential
guide's supplement are descriptions of almoust 250 items of
recollections and relations, took from eyewitnesses and participants
of events on Volhynia in 1943-1944, which are preserved in Eastern
Archive of KARTA Center. In KARTA Eastern Archive , there is so
called Bukat's Collection, in which there are documents of Armia
Krajowa (AK) intelligence from Eastern Malopolska teritory, with
descriptions and analysis of Polish-Ukrainian conflicts in 1943-1944.
This is extremely valuable and unique collection of sources.
Description of Bukat's Collection like descriptions of other archival
collections are based on international standard of archival
description ISAD. Descriptions of source memories and relations on
equlized form, containing basic information about the unit: author
data, date and place of issue, form and number of pages of relation,
informationa about attached documents, photos, maps and so on,
signatures and brief summary of plots relating to Polish-Ukrainian
conflict on Volhynia and Eastern Galicia in 1943-1944, existing in
relation or recollection.

I believe that several members have returned to visit their refugee camp
sites in Africa, Mexico and New Zealand. And cemeteries in Iran. But as
for the forced work camps in the former USSR, I have not heard of that
yet...

My name is John Edward Reda, age 45, living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
My father, Wladyslaw Reda, age 94, was deported from Janin, then Poland, now
Belarus, to Tuszylovo, near Onega/Archenglesk on Feb 10, 1940. I've grown
up hearing his stories of hardship from the deportation. Many of his
neighbours and family members died or were killed in the related events. My
life seems so safe and comfortable by comparison, that I find it hard to
imagine the sense of injustice, loss and sadness that the deportees must
have felt.

I have been searching the internet for information about the deportation and
came across this Yahoo group. I have found reading the posts fascinating.
The group seems an excellent resource for information and communication. I
am looking forward to learning more. I also wonder if any of the group
members or their relatives have ever returned to see their camps.

I am looking for several books about SMO in Tehran and Palestine.

The first is called "Dzieci Andersa" I don't know the author's name.

The second is "Historia SMO" by Zosia Rymarska-Kosinska.

Any information is appreciated.

Also, does Ziazek SMO in London have any Internet resources?, my
mother sent me one of her newsletters from the group, however, there
are no e-mail or web addresses.

I have a large collection of information on the families that were in Santa
Rosa Mexico.
I would be very happy to send it to you on a CD.
I ask that at some time in the future you might share some information with
me so that I can add it to my collection and continue to share it with
others.
I also have a picture of the Hermitage plus the captains log and also the
port and news articles in the US regarding the Poles and their route to
Santa Rosa. Plus much more information.

I added a photo of the Uss Hermitage to the Photo album.

My mother was one of the 700 Orphans on the USS Hermitage mentioned
in "A Brief Sun" and other publications. We visited Captain Townsend
at his home in about 1965. He was very moved that my mother went
through so much trouble to find him. He gave her a copy of the ship's
log which I still have today.

Her name was Aniela Kaczon and she traveled alone on the ship and was
about 5 or 6 years old. One of her sisters, Rose stayed behind in New
Zealand and the rest of the surviving family eventually joined her.
We visited them in 1973.

My mother was left in a Tehran (1943?)deathly sick and was separated
from her surviving family. She spoke very kindly of a young British
Officer in Tehran that looked after her. He referred to the British
Army camp as "The Country Club" and he made her miserable situation
as bearable as he could. He was very kind to her and made her laugh
again and she never forgot him. Her Parents died in Siberia and she
left the camp with her siblings. The older ones joined up with Anders
and fought at Monte Casino. My mother made it to the USS Hermitage in
Bombay.

She ended up in Mexico at Colonia Santa Rosa. I will submit more
photo's you may like to see.
