Subject: Re: [www.Kresy-Siberia.org] Introducing new member Jolanta Kliwer from Westfield, New Brunswick Canada? ? I found his name on my own list that I complied through a couple of sources. The Ukraine List #4 was only released recently and needed to be added to the big 3 that have been around awhile. I also added Border guards. ?I just quickly checked one site that holds a list - katyn.org.au There is another list MIEDNOJE which includes those buried there. The Police Families 1939 site also holds a list without UKR victims. To complete the so-called Katyn lists, we await release of the BeloRussian list. You will see a recent post from John H that has a link to a new source for this that could be complete or not. Other sites to check are Karta and katedra.pl Regarding the details of imprisonment, more is known about some that others, Hopefully other members will chip in on this. When the USSR decided on March5 1940 to kill all the officers, police, intelligencia on their lists, the victims were in the big 3 camps, Ukraine and Belo prisons. NKWD organized a few places where they would bring them to be shot. Some detail is available about this and some rumor. Some were taken to the woods, shot and dumped in a big hole, others were shot in a prison basement, and the bodies trucked out to the woods. One rumor is that a bunch of guys were floated out on the Dnieper river or white sea in a raft with holes and used for target practice. Guys were moved around to the various execution sites from other prisons. You may find yours went to the NKVD prison in Kalinin and is at Miednoje cemetery. A good account of what happened is at Police Families 1939 site. Details for those on the big 3 list are more avalable than for mine on the UKR list. Hope this helps. Getting the whole story is the goal for many people in this group. From: farrah khan <farrahk56@...> To: Kresy-Siberia@... Dear Mark, Today I read some of your exchanges with Jolanta regarding Katyn. You had very kindly sent me some more information about my grandfather Antoni Bugalski- Tver. Can you also send me the link where I could see his name please? I presume that Tver was a camp/prison? How long were they kept there? Was he buried in Tver or shot and buried in Katyn? Until you sent me that last email I was never sure that his name was in the Katyn list. |

? I should start by telling you that my grandfather was a Katyn victim and that story is one of my passions in researching, as others in this group like Anna P who has introduced herself. As you read up on Katyn you will understand why we are fascinated with your account. I dont think anyone ever saw those guys again once taken away for slaughter. Some like my grandfather still have not been found. The killing was secret, the burials were en masse at night and the first discovery of the massacre that is known was when the nazis uncovered a mass grave at Katyn forest in 1943. Are you able to recognize the deceased in the photo, or can anyone in your family?? If Boleslaw is the Boleslaw on the list from Tver, that may not be him in?this photo. I cant tell from the photo.?Maybe it is another family member who died around the time? ? Hopefully one of these will be of more use to you. ? I definitely Wanda, my mother is third from the left. ?Beside her, fourth from the left is Mietek ( I believe). ?There is no date on the photo. ?If indeed it is her father, Boleslaw Adamowicz, who died at Tver then she would have had to be 13. ? I am also attaching a photo of Wanda at age 15 for comparison. ?Dated 1942 at Slonim.? The woman on the left side of the photo supposedly is Agata, my grandmother. ?I sent additional photos of Agata for comparison.? Ancesdotally, my mother, Wanda told me that her father as well as her brothers were the first to go on the trains as the Russian troops made their way through Slonim. ? After that I do not have much information. ?I do know that Mietek had a long career in the Polish Army and eventually retired. ?My mother corresponded with him. ? Thank you for taking the time to help. ? Very interesting, but the funeral photo wouldnt enlarge. Could you send it again please? Is there clear information that this was grandfather Boleslaw or possibly someone else? Is there any info about how they got the body? ? Thank you for your help.? Here are two pictures. ?The one with Agata, Boleslaw and the three children I know comes from my mother's records as does the second one at the grave site. ? ?? Please let me know if I need to resend them in another fashion.? The satchel that Agata is holding at the gravesite looks more like it belonged to her husband than to her. ?I also recognize my mother in the picture. ?She would have been approximately 13. ?I do not recognize the uniform that one of her brothers was wearing. ? Sent: Monday, March 18, 2013 4:57 PM Subject: Re: [www.Kresy-Siberia.org] Introducing new member Jolanta Kliwer from Westfield, New Brunswick Canada ? Hi Jolanta, Welcome to the group! There are a few of us with Police relatives who were killed in Katyn (my grandfather included). I will try to help, but may I ask what you meant by "we have a picture at the gravesite .... a mystery as to how his body returned from Tver and Ostaszkow"... As far as I know none of the bodies have been returned - they all remain in the mass graves of the Katyn sites (so the bodies buried at Tver are still at Tver). The Boleslaw Adamowicz from Tver was from Radom (anyone in the group is Radom in Lwow region?) - see translation: 39th Front. Boleslaw ADAMOWICZ, b. 1895-09-15, Place of birth: pow. radomszcza???’???±ski, PP, d., 1940, Mednoye Also I see that your grandfather was from Belarus. It would seem possible to me that he would be on the Katyn Belarus List - the names of these 3,500 or so victims have still not been released by Belarus. There are many threads on the Belarus Katyn victims (including a recent post by Lenarda with an indepth article from Russian press). The Family Police Association that you contacted were able to confirm that my grandfather was killed on the Katyn Ukraine List but there was no information about his life as a policeman - I would say this sort of information is unlikely. Good luck with your research and I hope you find some information out from the Police Association. It is also worth contacting IPN and Karta.
