Missing Build-A-Pi command in Preferences

Following the latest YouTube video, Build A Pi Update, I updated from 3.0.0 to 3.0.2 using git pull.

The Build-A-Pi command was missing in the Preferences list.

I tried updating using the longer method and it's still missing. I've tried rebooting.

Is this something you have seen before?

Regards, Chris G4HYG

Chris,

Let's start by making sure you can run the update script manually. Try running
bash ~/pi-build/update

and see if it will start the update script.

The update works manually.

In terminal run the following command

sudo nano /usr/share/applications/build-a-pi.desktop

This should open a blank document. Paste in the following lines:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Build-a-Pi
GenericName=KM4ACK Build-a-Pi
Comment=Build-a-Pi App Manager
Exec=/home/pi/pi-build/update
Icon=/home/pi/pi-build/logo.png
Terminal=true
Type=Application
Categories=Settings;DesktopSettings;GTK;X-LXDE-Settings;

Now press ctrl+s on the keyboard followed by ctrl+x to save and exit. The icon should appear in your pi menu under preferences.

I, too, had to go the manual long route as one Pi started out on the older version. Another Pi has been been built using the latest & greatest baseline.

Is there a way to get the Build-A-Pi menu added to the Preferences GUI list if it is missing?

Thanks, Jason!

By the way I have three Raspberry Pi computers running your code at home, the workshop and as a portable grab bag.

I try to warn Pi newcomers to be VERY careful. It's additive. ?
