FT-891 Settings

Please send me your FT-891 settings. I am trying to figure out why my Pi's don't work as they should.

As a starter, to help me diagnose my problem, I need your FT-891 settings (i.e.those settings that you have changed from factory settings)?

My hardware setup includes:
1. Signalink
2. USB cable between Pi? & the FT-891
3. Pi 3B or a Pi 3B+
4. FT-891 (Later, I will also use a FT-818)
5. KB, Mouse, Monitor (I will go headless later, using my Chromebook)

My primary interest at the moment is getting WSJT-X FT8 going for POTA portable operation. I have loaded BaPi on both versions of the Pi. Separately, I have loaded WSJT 2.4 and hamlib 4.2 independantly on to the Raspberry OS. This works mostly except power level. BaPi versions won't transmit.

A while back, maybe a couple of years, I had the Pi's going with WSJT/Hamlib.... thoroughly documented. This no longer works with the advent of WSJT 2.4 and Hamlib 2.4. PS: I have been using FT8 every since it came out, mostly in my base station FT-991......still working to this day.

Eventually, I'll get around to using other features of the BaPi system.

Thanks,

I followed this website for changes that needed to be made for digital work with the 891

Jason,

Thanks....I'll try the 891 menu settings part of the article.

I've been using FT8, Winlink and all other digital modes quite successfully with that hardware combination and the following radio settings:

05-06: CAT RATE: 19200
05-08: CAT RTS: DISABLE
08-01: DATA MODE: OTHERS
08-02: PSK TONE: 1500
08-03: OTHER DISP: 1500
08-04: OTHER SHIFT: 1500
08-05: DATA LCUT FREQ: 100
08-06: LCUT SLOPE: 6db/Oct
08-07: DATA HCUT FREQ: 4000
08-08: DATA HCUT SLOPE: 6db/Oct
08-09: DATA IN SELECT: REAR
08-10: DATA PTT SELECT: DAKY
08-11: DATA OUT LEVEL: 50
08-12: DATA BFO: USB

Menu -> WDH -> 3000

The Signalink draws its power from the USB socket on the computer, so if your computer is not giving it enough juice, the powered hub may be necessary.

One thing to note, and it's hidden in the the Signalink USB documentation, is that the PTT mode in the software you're using should be set to "VOX". You do not set the radio to VOX, just the software. If you don't do this, the mic becomes active during transmit and other weird things happen (see this link for the full troubleshooting session: ). With the above settings, you will be using USB-Data mode. That's nice, because you don't have to keep switching between USB and LSB whenever you change modes/bands.

Good luck.
