unstable behavior of G90 with flrig

David, K7DMJ

Is there something I should know about the current build of flrig?

I've been wasting hours trying to get a RPi/Digimode-4/G90 connection working with flrig.? Reloaded the firmware today and got the radio connected to the RPi.? Yay!? But I took it out on the lawn just now and set everything up.? "Transceiver not responding!"? What the heck?? I didn't change anything.? Maybe I wasn't holding my mouth right.? Dunno.? This is ridiculous.

I don't know if this is caused by the G90's comms port firmware code being unstable, or either the RPi or Digimode-4 (or the interaction of the two) exhibiting random behavior.? If it's a flrig fault, I'd appreciate knowing about it before I waste more time.

I don't own a G90 so I won't be able to offer a lot of help but hopefully others that do own that rig will jump in. In the meantime, you might try posting in the FLRIG forum and see if other users have suggestions. /g/linuxham/topics

My experience has been to power up the pi first with the audio cable to the G90 DISCONNECTED. Then power up the G90, finally connecting the audio cable to the bottom port on the left side. I have experienced an issue with different kinds of homemade plugs. Using the plugs supplied in the box seems to work best. I am also not using the digimode-4 but the inexpensive USB audio codec. Hope this helps de WA1PB

Peter,
I'm starting with everything unplugged, powering on both devices and connecting Digimode-4 to RPi first, radio second.? Doesn't help.

I'm about to give up on the Digimode-4 and trying to use CAT control.? Think I will just use VOX and the Sabrent USB audio interface.? Is that what you are using?

Hi David,
Yes, I am using the Sabrent USB audio device and the CE-19 for CAT control. Following the Build-a-pi set up and a quick Video from OH8STN I've had no issues with digital modes. Keep at it and I'm happy to help you with settings too, if you need.

After last patch lots of problems........

did you double check your digital setting for the G90.... The first time i used mine.... I struggled... this helped my to be certain
about the settings it requires.?

Peter,
What cables did you need for that setup?

I gave up on the Xggcomm interface. The Digirig interface worked like?a charm, on my Pi plus my Toughbook.

Yesterday, I tried using the USB cable that comes with the Xiegu G90 and is used for updating firmware (the one with the blue USB plug).? I was able to connect to flrig using that and CAT control worked.? Steve at XGGComm concluded that the Digmode-4 had a fault and shipped a replacement.? Frustrating.? I've got a Digirig Mobile on its way to me as well.? So I'll soon find out whether the Digimode-4 was really the source of all this trouble.

I was surprised by this experience.? Lots of people have good things to say about the XGGComm interfaces.? I guess it's possible to have faults in any electronic device.? I just wish that there were diagnostic tools that could tell you which item is failing.? In the case of the Digimode-4, the RPi detected it and set up a port without complaint.? It just didn't work.

Been using it for while and after the patch been on fritz. ALC levels all over the place and the Vol levels keep changing. I went from PI4 2gb to 4gb and went back to the 2gb have issues. Had re-flash head firmware and reset the radio setting.

Using firmware 1.75 and I am going try 1.77 tonight see if any differences.

Could be worth looking at the interface you are using.? I was shocked to find that the Digimode-4 was likely the cause of the intermittent failures to connect.? It's a generally well-regarded interface.? Anyway, I'll know for sure in a day or two, when the Digirig Mobile turns up in my mailbox.? I'm not 100% sure it isn't the radio or software, but the fact that the Xiegu USB cable was able to connect with flrig points the finger at the Digimode-4.
