Re: Quadra-Inovato

Can you run BAP?

?Us non Linux Hams like to know.

?I would like to get one working on my mobile and have it linked to UFI Rogers Hotspot. I have no Outdoor Amateur Antennas. I use a VHF Yagi and a Mag Loop on 14.078. If I can get the Quadra?Device to work on my mobile. I'll get WFView (Linux) to turn on my IC 7100 and I can run remote to the mobile using JS8Call.

Right now I'm using the W1BAW/version of BAP and it's running JS8Call. I see N0GQ did a heartbeat.?

Mag Loop is very directional. I can't pick up BC, Alberta hams as I get West Coast to East Coast. At least they hear me but they don't chat.

The magic of the BAP set up with a pi is no need for monitor or keyboard. ?Just enable VNC on the pi. ?If it joins a network, access it via that IP. ?If in the woods, have the HOTSPOT activate automatically with no network available and access the pi via the hotspot using VNC. ? Access can be via an iPad, surface Go or even a phone.

I had the same issue with ARDOP and found it began after an update.? Any kernel update after Linux raspberrypi 5.15.34-v7l+ #1544 SMP Tue Apr 19 13:16:56 BST 2022 armv7l GNU/Linux would cause the problem.?

Re: #IC-705 - Connectivity for Digital #IC-705

This is great! ?Thank you everyone. ?I really appreciate how gracious and generous y'all have been!

I had success with my first pi build thanks to KM4ACK's YouTube videos. ?I am certainly up for starting there with rig control.

QUESTION: ?Am I hearing y'all say that using the Pat setup on MacOS through terminal is a bad idea? ?Or will not work at all?

My motivation in asking is the idea of having display and keyboard build into a MacBook.

Do y'all really enjoy any particular display or keyboard for QRP pi operations?

Again, grateful!

I have found a 1-1 RF choke at the feed point works too.

When you connect with a USB cable you may experience some RFI in the cable. Symptoms will show as the Pi freezing up, PTT sticking, etc. If you have this issue find a torroid and wrap your cable around it s bunch of times. I have a 10ft USB cable and wrapped the torroid about 10x (probably overkill). Make sure you look at the torroid mix and know which frequencies it will choke out RFI for based on your operations.

The last thing you want is to backpack in somewhere, set up your station, and RFI kills all your digital modes.

All advice above is correct. No need for the icom software. If you installed build-a-pi and have a USB cable its now just a matter of configuring the software. ?I came into digital with a Pi, and zero linux experience. It took a while to learn but I'm glad I did.?

Re: #IC-705 - Connectivity for Digital #IC-705

Definitely?use a torroid?/ ferrite. For me, standard practice here is to use Type 31 mix (1 - 300 mHz - found on Amazon) on all cables. Like Brian said, wrap as man turns as possible through the torroid.

I have 3 different BAP setups. Two of them use the FT-857D and one uses a 2 meter HT / 40 watt amp. I have no issues with RF getting into things and screwing?up the works.

And for good?measure, I keep several spare type 31 ferrites around the home QTH as well as in the Jeep.

Good luck!

?The RS-BA1 software is Windows only. If you want to start with the Pi, I would recommend a plain USB cable between the Pi and the radio.
