I have found a 1-1 RF choke at the feed point works too.

When you connect with a USB cable you may experience some RFI in the cable. Symptoms will show as the Pi freezing up, PTT sticking, etc. If you have this issue find a torroid and wrap your cable around it s bunch of times. I have a 10ft USB cable and wrapped the torroid about 10x (probably overkill). Make sure you look at the torroid mix and know which frequencies it will choke out RFI for based on your operations.
The last thing you want is to backpack in somewhere, set up your station, and RFI kills all your digital modes.
All advice above is correct. No need for the icom software. If you installed build-a-pi and have a USB cable its now just a matter of configuring the software. ?I came into digital with a Pi, and zero linux experience. It took a while to learn but I'm glad I did.?
