Re: Build a Pi 64 bit Beta Testers Needed
Are you concerned about VNC Viewer installing correctly, or VNC SERVER?VNC Viewer Great work! The specific items of interest for testing were installed. Working great as far as I can tell. Thanks for the report. I'll look into the FLRIG shortcut. Installed everything today. Install went smoothly. WSJTX and CQRLOG were not installed. I installed CQRLOG 64 bit from the repository and it ran fine. WSJTX 2.5.4 from Source Forge will not install. The older 2.3 64 bit installed fine. More testing tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder on CQRLOG. Can you try installing WSJTX again using BAP update tool? It installed fine here yesterday. -- 73, de KM4ACK

Re: BAP on Intel Linux?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYeah, I kinda was hoping that EVERYTHING in BAP was compiled at build time for the architecture it is running on, but Jason (KM4ACK) confirmed what you said and your testing revealed ¨C it¡¯s a no-go. ? Oh well. ? It was an interesting idea. The laptop would make a nice control surface for a headless RPi running BAP, so there is that. ? Thanks, ? Ken, N2VIP ? Re: FT 891 Sabrent no alc or power
#ft891
FT8 was designed to be a mode that utilizes the splitting of Tx and Rx frequencies. Disabling split of all kinds, according to the FT8 gurus, causes congestion on the band and unnecessary QRM. There are many examples of why this is so on the interwebs. They recommend the Split Operation setting use either the radio's own split setting "Rig" (which ises VFO A and VFO B, if Split can be used on the radio and it can switch fast enough etc), or the Fake It setting (whereby the radio changes TX and RX frequency without using VFO A and VFO B to do the split operation).
Maybe the problem the OP is experiencing with the Sabrent card is the same problem I had with the SignaLink USB and FT891 - it sure sounds like it... the frequency going up and up after each transmission. The solution with the SignaLink, as specified in the small print in their manual, is that the PTT setting has to be set to VOX (like it is in Jason's image). The radio itself is NOT placed in VOX mode, but the VOX setting is selected in the Flrig PTT setting. Worth a try. Either way, disabling Split mode seems to be going against the design methodology of FT8. |

Jason,
Great work! The specific items of interest for testing were installed. Working great as far as I can tell. ONE MINOR item noted, FLRIG startup shortcut installed? in?menu://applications/Hamradio and not in??menu://applications/Hamradio/FLSUITE. Will?install more apps and test as time becomes available. Details: Virgin install of recent 64 bit OS on 4GB Pi 4 Downloaded /ran? BAP 3.2.3 per you instructions Installed FLRIG, FLDIGI, VNCVIEWER, GRIDTRACKER, HAMRS, PAT, PAT MENU FLRIG launches and connects to rig FLDIGI launches and controls rig thru FLDIGI VNCVIEWER launches and connects fine to another PI. GRIDTRACKER? launches, looks normal. (I did not connect it to anything) HAMRS launches, I created small log, exported adif.? It looked up call signs. ADIF looked OK. (No experience with PAT, and no WL2K account but the PAT MENU comes up, I can search for and find gateways etc. Got a gateway list, popup said it posted to outbox. Nice work Jason! 73! Dan WH6A

BAP on Intel Linux?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello all,A local retailer is 'blowing-out' very low-spec Intel laptops: Intel Celeron N3450 4 core 1.1 GHz CPU 4 Gig RAM 64 Gig eMMC storage 11.6" color display (1366x768 resolution) 2.4 GHz WiFi chip (see below) Windows 10 Pro Education installed Keyboard/trackpad/battery USB 3.0, USB 2.0, MicroSD, microHDMI and powered by 12v power port (3.5mmx1.35mm, aka "H" adapter) The question is: Can I install Linux on this (any distro) and build-a-pi on it? Can I install the Raspberry Pi OS on this and then build-a-pi on it? At $80, this laptop is cheaper than a 4 Gig RPi solution that includes a case, keyboard, display and battery power source. (Note, the WiFi uses a chip/adapter that does not enjoy native Linux support, but lwfinger on GitHub will likely get it working under Linux - I have installed lwfinger and it works under Ubuntu 21.10) Ken, N2VIP |

You should have enough wire now to shorten or lengthen to dial in SWR....mine is barely 1.2:1 across 40m.? This efhw is a fantastic piece of kit. 73 de, KN4UNO ??? Re: Trouble with EFHW kit

Hello, The thing to do when tuning an antenna is to take several SWR measurements across the band. Then look at the one with the lowest SWR and see what frequency it is at. With just one SWR measurement there is no way of knowing if the wire is too long or too short. If memory serves, that kit comes with wire that is a bit long, but don't take my word for it, check the 40 meter band at every 100 kHz.? So for example, if the lowest SWR is near 7.000 mHz then the wire is too long. If the lowest SWR is at 7.300 mHz, then its too short. Hope this helps. ? -- Mike WB8ERJ Geeze! What is he up to now? |

Re: FT 891 Sabrent no alc or power
#ft891
Choose the sound card with USB C media electronics in the name. It is the last one in the screenshot above. The rig is changing frequency because of your split setting in WSJTX. Change it to none and it shouldn't move the frequency. (Note: Don't pay attention to other settings in the screenshot below. This system was not configured for a radio.)

How should I get rid of multiple "screen" running at the same time?? A reboot doesn't help. N4VIP On Mon, Feb 28, 2022 at 6:24 AM km4ack <jason.oleham@...> wrote: You shouldn't have multiple instances of BPQ running at the same time. There should only be one running. --
