Cant get 73 Linux to run
I bought one of the WOWE mini computers like Jason has the video. I did everything git hub to KM4ACK, copied the install commands and even went back and installed git. It all finished and just set there nothing came up for me to enter my call sign. I came out of terminal mode and just have a Linux Mint screen no evidence of 73Linux ever touching it. What now??

Re: No Tx when using VARA
At this point, I am abandoning the Pi for anything other than packet and JS8Call.
I have set up a more robust PC running Linux Mint and 73 Linux. ?VARA and Pat are communicating unlike before. I am unable, though, to connect to any VARA HF gateway. I have tried multiple stations on 40, 30, and 20M at distances between 5 and 500 miles. Listing on another receiver, I hear my station sending out the packets. I must have something configured incorrectly. |

Re: 12 volt to 5 volt converter
NOTE that the Raspberry Pi 5 normally requires USB-C Power Delivery protocol (PD) to operate.? The PD spec only requires 3A at 5 volts, but the RPi5 bends the rules and requests 5A at 5.2V from the PD source.? ? There are only a few 12V to 5V converter modules with USB-C connectors that support PD.? Although only rated 36 watts, I have used these to run an RPI5:? ? $6 ?? ?$14 ? (has display showing mode and V)? ? There are many converter modules, some with USB-C plugs, that do not support PD.? ? $9 ?? ?$12 for 2 ?? I have used these, which will work fine, if you first set a parameter in the RPi5 hardware configuration to ignore PD, and assume 5A is available:? ? On the terminal command line, enter:? ? sudo rpi-eeprom-config –edit? ? ?Add the line:? ? PSU_MAX_CURRENT=5000? And add the following to the end of file /boot/firmware/config.txt:? ? usb_max_current_enable=1? ? The RPi5 will deliver an "Under-voltage" warning when operating below 4.63 volts.? To see what the RPi5 measures on the 5V input, enter on the terminal:? ?vcgencmd pmic_read_adc | grep EXT5V_V? You will be surprised at the voltage drop in most USB supply cables!? ? Most USB cables are poorly made with flimsy wires.? Buy a power cable with thick wires, rated for Quick Charge or PD.? ? $8 for 2 C to C ?? ? $9 for 5 A to C ?? ? |
Re: 12 volt to 5 volt converter
I have been using one of these in 3 different go boxes I’ve built. For the last 3-4 years they have given me no problems, and I like them because the voltage ?and amperage is adjustable. Keep in mind when you are planning your build to account for ALL the power draws — not just Pi, but fans, USB devices, lights, displays, etc.

Re: No Tx when using VARA
As long as you confirmed the user & grid are set in pat configure, ignore the quick stats. Could just be a minor bug. I'll fire up a pi and see if mine does the same thing.
?
Did you resolve FLRIG not keying the radio? If that's not working, neither will Pat.

Re: Starting from scratch again - part 4
OK No problem. This is what is going on. /etc/profile is a file that you need to edit. It is located in the /etc folder. You don't need to change to that directory, you can edit it from your home directory. So the first thing is to open up the terminal window. In Pic-1 (attached) click on the circled icon. A black window will open up. Type the following as seen in Pic-2: sudo nano /etc/profile Press [enter] This opens up the file you want to edit. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the file using the down arrow key. Then on a separate?line add the following exactly?as shown: export XDG_CONFIG_HOME=$HOME/.config IMPORTANT: In Linux UPPER CASE?is different than lower case. So enter it exactly, or copy / paste. See Pic-3. This is what it should look like at the end of the file. Press ^s to save the file and ^x to exit. Reboot your Pi. good luck! ? -- Mike WB8ERJ Packet BBS email: WB8ERJ@WB8ERJ.#NEOH.OH.USA.NOAM Geeze! What is he up to now? Thanks Mike,

I will give it a try later on. I am a bit unclear about; do I go to a folder and where is the command 'export XDG_CONFIG_$HOME/.config' is supposed to end up? You may have answered the issue but I just don't know what to do where. ATB and 73, Tryg

I have tried to install '73 Linux' on a new 8GB Pi5. Conky is blank and I cannot access the Pi? (or any other device) via VNC Viewer. Even though I have the official power supply (27w) I am getting a message that is inadequate. The SD card is new and a good one. I have tried to be very careful and have installed '73 Linux' on a number of machines in the past. No problems. This was to be the summer computer for antenna experiments. I have used a 3B+ until recently and it has worked grand although as of a few minutes ago I could not connect to my LAN. I am also no longer able to power down normally as in the past, I have to just unplug the psu. Am I missing something really obvious here? TIA, Tryg
