Re: Logging software alternatives

Thanks Mike, you have a great site by the way!? Appreciate the step-by step on how you installed and use Field Day Logger (you should submit some of that info as a patch to the manual/install & config instructions).? ?The interface is very intuitive, and it's fast.? Looks like a very useful program, easier to use than tfl or trlinux I found.? Albeit very focused on just FD (which may be why it works so well).? I see he's since written programs for POTA spotting and POTA logging.

I was hoping it could be adapted for other contests - the arrl_sect data could be (maybe?) replaced with counties for a state QSO party, but changing the exchange from FD entry class to a serial number would take new code and more involved mods to the interface.? Since he's written other single-purpose loggers, maybe...?

Re: Piardop Issue #ardop #update

Thanks Jason.? The commands you provided solved my issue.? I understand your concern with the Pi OS 64bit stability, but I am kind of in this for the experimentation so I try new releases of software and help identify issues.

Re: GPS setup manually?

I can attest to that.? I have an Icom IC-7200.? I set USBAUTO to "false."? In the gpsd config file I also exclude the /dev/ttyusbxx device that the IC-7200 wants to use.

Btw, I cannot seem to get a Winlink connection with my IC-7200.? Other digital modes like JS8Call and Fldigi work.? In Pat Winlink all the settings are correct, and the app is functioning as i expect it to.? The signal goes out, the radio keys up, power levels are okay.? I have tried different antennas and different Winlink stations on different bands, mostly 20m and 40m.? I have previously had regular success making connections using my Yaesu FT-891 and external sound card. I want to keep the IC-7200 as my base station and my FT-891 as my portable/mobile rig. ? Does anyone have suggestions what else I can do??

Thanks in advance!

Re: BAP Ardop winlink gateway #ardop #winlink

My node is an ecomm node at this time. I explained that to the winlink contact, and they approved my sysop access.

Eventually I will have a 24/7 node as well. I try to make sure it is used at minimum once a month to show good practices in updates and equipment capabilities.?

OK Thanks for looking into it. By the way I failed to mention earlier that install is on 64bit raspbian OS

Re: Pat Winlink Beacon, Beacon through a digi

After playing with the config.json file I found how to set digi path for the ax25 beacon. "destination": "IDENT via W7MOT-6" worked. Format is DEST via DIGI.

Vara does not appear to be an available listening mode right now.?

I haven't played with the ARDOP config to see if messages are an option.

Re: Piardop Issue #ardop #update

Someone else ran into this exact issue recently. Personally, I don't think 64bit is ready for prime time on the Pi so I have stuck with the 32bit version (but I digress). Try running these commands:

sudo dpkg --add-architecture armhf
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y libqt5widgets5:armhf libqt5serialport5:armhf libasound2:armhf libasound2-plugins:armhf

and then try the ardop modem again.

Re: Logging software alternatives

As far as contest logging software, this last Field Day I ran?K6GTE's Field Day Logger on my BAP and it ran great. It doesn't support digital modes (yet...) but what I like about it is that it has the look and feel of the infamous N3FJP software. He also has a separate?piece of software for the WinKeyer for running CW. It also supports CAT control.

He also has a separate?piece of software for Winter Field Day that supports digital modes, specifically Fldigi for PSK modes and such. I haven't had a chance to look at it, but it too is probably a good choice for WFD.

Here is a writeup of his Field Day Logger:

Here is a writeup of my Field Day running 1E QRP with my daughter, KC8GRS. I don't mention his logging software, but it will give some context.

Hope this helps!

I thought the Winlink team had an option for "part-time" stations used in emergencies. They may have removed this option though. It might be worth sending them an email and inquiring.

Running a full time gate way isn't terribly expensive compared to other endeavors in our hobby. A pi zero 2, digirig, and a simple radio like the Yaesu FT2980 will work. I use a Pi Zero 2, signalink, & FT2980 for my gateway. I already had the signalink laying around unused or I would have gone with the digirig.

Can you run the file manually from the terminal?

Re: Software TNC

garim uses the ardop modem for transport. You will need to start the ardop modem manually before starting garim. The ardop modem can be found in ~/ardop/

Running multiple software with one sound card is possible but will take a bit of experimentation on your part. By default, BAP sets up a virtual sound card "pulse". I have gotten it to work before by starting JS8Call first and setting up the actual sound card. Then opened FLDIGI and connected it to the "pulse" sound card. I then had to open Pulse-Audio and play with it a bit but eventually got both applications working with one soundcard.

Pat Winlink Beacon, Beacon through a digi

Is it possible to set up beacons for the listening modes (ax25, ARDOP, VARAFM, VARAHF)? ?If I want to beacon through a digi would I use the same format of for the "destination": "digi/callsign" like using a digi for a connection?

I am picturing off-grid operation, sending a VARAHF beacon for P2P. Can I set a beacon for this or another modem?

I am looking at the Pat documentation and landed on configuration documentation.

cfg Documentation -?

When Pat is in listen mode (ax25) it sends out a beacon on a set interval. ex:KJ7RNY to IDENT, Winlink P2P. The config.json file seems to use a different syntax for ax25 "beacon" vs ardop "beacon_interval". ARDOP does not give options for "message" or "destination". VARAHF and VARAFM do not have anything for beaconing in the config.json.

Re: GPS setup manually?

Edited

Not unless you use BAP's install script, you need to at least change USBAUTO to 'false' and add your USB device to DEVICES.
