Please post your Pi-APRS settings. Do you have FLRIG open before starting the program?

Pi-APRS Hamlib Rig Open error -6
#aprs
Hi,
I wanted to check out Pi-APRS. Hamlib is installed, direwolf is installed, the Pi-APRS suite is installed. Direwolf works fine for Pat Menu & Winlink on VHF using my IC-7100, therefore the AX.25 ports are, I believe, correctly setup. When I start Pi_Aprs and click Start Modem, I get the following error: Hamlib Rig open error -6: IO error The log looks like this: Dire Wolf version 1.6 Includes optional support for:? hamlib cm108-ptt Reading config file /home/pi/direwolf.conf Audio device for both receive and transmit: plughw:2,0? The video on Pi-APRS does not show any configuration for the radio, and since it works already in Winlink for VHF, I'd expect there not to be any configuration other than what was done for Winlink purposes. Also, when selecting Settings from the Pi-APRS menu, it will not accept a 2 word answer for the City Name ("Big Sur", for example). Once a 2-word city name is entered and the program started again, when the modem is started it complains that is does not know what "Big" [first word of the two] on line 7 is. What am I missing? |

Re: IC-7300/Pat issues unresolved
Hey there, Jason. Thanks for the response. Yes, I open FLRIG and then Pat Menu, Start ARdop modem. On the right hand side of my screen, it shows RIGCTL On and FLRIG On and ARDOP On. I'm able to send messages via telnet but it says it can't QSY when trying to put in the frequency for the destination or by using Aliases. Hope this helps.?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Jason Thanks for that tip, since I hadn't planned on using the GPS unit
while not making any portable outings I didn't think I needed to install GPS. I will go back and update now and remember to install in future for any possibility. Marty kd8bj On 9/18/21 6:45 AM, km4ack wrote:

I was having trouble with VHF Winlink on the IC-7100, but now having it working well. I'm making this post so that anyone else who has an IC-7100 (or any recent Icom radio) can see the settings that work and use them as a starting point for their own Winlink VHF station:
I have an IC-7100 and want to try Winlink on 2m. Everything works fine on HF. I'm using the latest build of BAP. Pat, Pat Menu, FLrig, Direwolf, AX25 are all installed. I used the BuildAPi patch tool to update/reinstall direwolf and hamlib as when I duplicated these steps on another pi, it didn't work until I did the update/reinstall. I get no errors when I run the command, direwolf -p. FLrig is running and working correctly. I can use FLrig to put the radio into transmit. Here are the relevant FLrig settings for an IC-7100: NOTE: The FLrig mode is set to FM-D. If you have it set to just FM, it will key the radio, but will not transmit a data packet (that was my original problem!). Settings: arecord -l shows: **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** card 2: CODEC [USB Audio CODEC], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio] Subdevices: 0/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 My /etc/ax25/axports file says: wl2k N3JF 1200 255 7 Winlink My ~/direwolf.conf file has the following changes: ADEVICE? plughw:2,0 MYCALL N3JF MODEM 1200 PTT RIG 2 localhost:4532 Pat Menu is set up as follows: NOTE: You can set "2M Mode for Radio" to "PKTFM". Both work, doesn't seem to make any difference. To get it working, 1) Start Pat Menu 2) Click Start Packet Modem in Pat Menu 3) Click Action, then Connect 4) Under Transport, chose AX.25 5) Click Show RMS choose the 2m Band and select a nearby station from the drop-down list. The radio will QSY. 6) Click Connect and watch the magic happen. 73, Julian |

Hotspot Tools won't correctly add a iPhone Hotspot SSID
I needed to use a cellular data connection last weekend in supporting a 100 mile foot race when our antenna was damaged in a microburst and was unable to ADD and USE my cellphone Hotspot.? I used Hotspot tools to find the SSID and added it but HSToolst left off the second half of the SSID because there was a space in it.
My cellphone SSID is "Daves iPhone" and Hotspot tools only sees "Daves" as the SSID when it stores the new SSID and subsequently it won't connect when I select "Daves".? HS Tools need to capture the whole SSID including the space and work with the full SSID. Thanks. Dave - KD7UM |

RF Noise and Pi
Just been participating in the TAPR DCC and they made an interesting observation that I though worth reposting - when working with the Pi - The Pi isn't natively grounded even in the shack as it's usually connected via a wall wart so issues with stray dc or noise from connector isn't uncommon, the suggestion given was that?a good way to?resolve this is to use the onboard sound socket as a convenient grounding?point? as the ring sleeve connector is connected to the Pi's ground and connecting this to ground can remove a number?of noise issues. Error message Conky
Hi
On my Rpi 4 4GB while operating at home without a GPS unit plugged in, using home wifi I am seeing on the Conky display instead of "No GPS" I think "Some err". I think I have traced it to the result of a script named "get-grid" which when executed with the command ./get-grid has an long error starting with "Some error....". Now in the past operating in this manor I would get on Conky "No GPS" which is what I would expect now too. In the past there is a file in one of the Conky folders I edited to echo my grid square to print on the display, which if operating in the field with a GPS unit plugged in to show the actual grid square from the GPS unit. Used to work fine. Any ideas as to what may have changed to this, seems that it should show correctly as "No GPS" like before. I would like to get back to normal. Marty kd8bj |
