Re: Ford Changes Mind on Dropping AM Radio in Vehicles
开云体育Hi Jerry, Removing AM from EVs is a sure sign that the electronics and motors are generating RF noise. This can impact amateur radio installations for one thing. Plus, the national alerting system uses AM broadcast for alerts and messaging.? 73, Frank Krizan KR1ZAN? On May 24, 2023, at 11:15 AM, Jerry C Moore W3NJJ <Jer950@...> wrote:

ARLX001 National Hurricane Center Amateur Radio Station Annual Test
SB SPCL @ ARL $ARLX001
ARLX001 National Hurricane Center Amateur Radio Station Annual Test ZCZC AX01 QST de W1AW Special Bulletin 1 ARLX001 From ARRL Headquarters Newington CT May 16, 2023 To all radio amateurs SB SPCL ARL ARLX001 ARLX001 National Hurricane Center Amateur Radio Station Annual Test The amateur radio station of the National Hurricane Center, WX4NHC (NHC), located on the campus of Florida International University in Miami, will conduct their on-the-air Annual Communications Test on Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 9 AM - 5 PM EDT (1300z-2100z). This is the NHC's 43rd year of public service. NHC Amateur Radio Assistant Coordinator Julio Ripoll, WD4R/WX4NHC, reports that the purpose of this event is to test amateur radio equipment and antennas at the NHC as well as operators' home equipment, antennas, and computers prior to this year's hurricane season. The 2023 hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through November 30. This event is good practice for amateur radio operators worldwide to practice amateur radio communications during times of severe weather. Ripoll said WX4NHC will be on HF, VHF, UHF, 2- and 30-meter APRS, and Winlink. To contact the NHC's amateur radio station send an email to, wx4nhc@.... The subject of the email must contain //WL2K. The Hurricane Watch Net will try to stay on 14.325 MHz for most of the time, as well as 7.268 MHz depending on propagation. They may also change frequencies due to potential QRM. You may be able to find WX4NHC on HF by using one of the DX spotting networks, such as the DX Summit website at, . The VoIP Hurricane Net will also be active from 4 PM - 5 PM EDT (2000-2100z), on IRLP node 9219/EchoLink WX-TALK Conference node 7203. Visit their website at for more information. WX4NHC will also make a few contacts on local VHF and UHF repeaters, as well as the Florida Statewide Amateur Radio Network (SARnet) system to test station equipment. QSL cards are available via WD4R with a self-addressed stamped envelope. More information about the NHC is available at their website . NNNN /EX |

ARLB006 ARRL Advocates for Radio Amateurs as FCC Proposes Changes to 60-Meter Band_o
SB QST @ ARL $ARLB006
ARLB006 ARRL Advocates for Radio Amateurs as FCC Proposes Changes to 60-Meter Band ZCZC AG06 QST de W1AW ARRL Bulletin 6 ARLB006 From ARRL Headquarters Newington CT April 28, 2023 To all radio amateurs SB QST ARL ARLB006 ARLB006 ARRL Advocates for Radio Amateurs as FCC Proposes Changes to 60-Meter Band The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is seeking comments about changing the secondary allocation available to radio amateurs on 60 meters. The FCC issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on April 21, 2023, that deals with the band. In a prior petition, ARRL, The National Association for Amateur Radio, urged protecting the existing use of the band by amateurs when adding a new allocation adopted internationally. Currently, radio amateurs in the US have access to five discrete channels on a secondary basis: 5332 kHz, 5348 kHz, 5358.5 kHz, 5373 kHz, and 5405 kHz. Users of these channels are limited to an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100 W PEP. The FCC proposes to allocate 15 kHz of contiguous bandwidth between 5351.5 - 5366.5 kHz on a secondary basis with a maximum power of 15 W EIRP (equivalent to 9.15 W ERP). This allocation was adopted at the 2015 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15). The federal government is the primary user of the 5 MHz spectrum. The government's manager of spectrum use, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), has expressed support for implementing the allocation as adopted at WRC-15. Doing so would result in amateurs losing access to four of the five discrete channels, and power limits would be reduced from 100 W ERP to 9.15 W ERP. However, it would provide access to a new contiguous 15 kHz band that includes one of the current five channels. In 2017, ARRL petitioned the FCC to keep the four 60-meter channels that fall outside the new band, as well as the current operating rules, including the 100 W PEP ERP limit. The ARRL petition stated, "Such implementation will allow radio amateurs engaged in emergency and disaster relief communications, and especially those between the United States and the Caribbean basin, to more reliably, more flexibly, and more capably conduct those communications." ARRL said that years of amateur radio experience using the five discrete channels have shown that amateurs can coexist with primary users at 5 MHz while complying with the regulations established for their use. The petition also stated, "Neither ARRL, nor, apparently, NTIA, is aware of a single reported instance of interference to a federal user by a radio amateur operating at 5 MHz to date." In the NPRM, the FCC recognizes that Canada has already adopted 60-meter allocations and related rules that align with those proposed by ARRL. The Commission wrote, "Finally, we note that Canada has essentially implemented the same rules as ARRL has requested." The NPRM can be found online at, . The FCC proposed to allocate the 15 kHz bandwidth but stopped short of making a proposal on whether the existing channels should remain allocated to amateur radio and what the power limitations should be. They requested comments on their proposal and the related channel and power issues. Comments will be due 60 days after the NPRM is published in the Federal Register, which is expected within the next two weeks. NNNN /EX |

Update on Emergency Communications in Turkey after Earthquake
Update on Emergency Communications in Turkey after Earthquake
For immediate release: February 6, 2023 – The following news post is from Carlos Alberto Santamaría González, CO2JC, the Emergency Coordinator, for Region 2 of the the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU R2): “As you know, last night there was a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that mainly affected Turkey and Syria but also other neighbouring countries with 3,700 people dead and more than 16,000 injured until the last hours, but it is suspected that there are more. According to information received from the Emergency Coordinators of the IARU Region 1 countries and especially from Greg Mossop, G0DUB, the Emergency Communications Coordinator for this region, communications in Turkey are mainly on VHF, but transmissions in Turkish have been heard on the frequency of 28.540 MHz, although they can also use 3.777 and 7.092 MHz. For this reason we ask our colleagues at IARU R2 to protect those frequencies and be on the lookout in case we can help with anything. As for Syria, it has been reported that apparently there are not many Radio Amateurs there, so we do not know if there is any frequency in use in that country. Aziz ?ASA, TA1E, Turkish Emergency Communications coordinator, suggested that any help from other countries to his should be coordinated through the Turkish embassy in each country. Humanitarian aid groups from several European countries are currently moving into the affected regions. We appreciate the concern of colleagues from IARU R2 member societies for this earthquake that has occurred in these countries. We offer our condolences to all the people and colleagues in the countries affected by this terrible disaster.” -- Carlos Alberto Santamaria Gonzalez, CO2JC emcor@...
