There were some zoom difficulties in the first few minutes, so the real discussion starts around the 11 minute mark. 73 Brian Pro |

October 2024 SCARA club meeting
Hey, here is something to shake up your club meeting experience in October. ? Our meeting will be on Oct 14, the usual date, but the meeting will be something we have never tried before.? Since Oct 14 is a holiday, and people do not have to trudge to the office, we have decided to hold a daytime meeting instead of the normal nightly meeting. We thought we would hold a POTA (Parks on the Air) activation along with a Fox Hunt at the Saratoga State Park.? We will meet at 1 PM in the Warming Hut at the park.? That¡¯s just off of the Avenue of the Pines entrance right by Route 9.??? One of our experienced activators will set up a station and we will get a chance to see a POTA station in action.? ? Simultaneously with this event we will tote out the club¡¯s Fox, and have it pinging away if anyone wants to explore looking for it. Just a note, we are doing this in the ¡°free¡± part of the park.? You do not want to go into the park via the toll booths, as you might get unnecessary charges for park entry.. ? Jim KG2H |

K2DLL 147.240 MHz repeater
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýFolks: Saratoga County has two towers at their Providence radio site. Several years ago, they abandoned the older tower when they moved to the new tower and building leaving only the K2DLL systems. They are 147.240 MHz analog voice, four beacons for weak signal work, and a Flexnet system. The old tower is about to be taken down and the power turned off to the building. The four beacons are now QRT and there is no plan to put them at any Saratoga County communications site. Rusty, KE2PW, is looking for a site for the Flexnet system. ? The 147.240 MHz repeater and UHF link radio are being moved to the new tower and building. During this move, 24 might be off the air but the remainder of? the club¡¯s repeaters, i.e. 147.00 MHz and 448.225 MHz on Spruce Mountain; 147.360 MHz on the Halfmoon water tank; 147.030 MHz on Fraker Mountain near Edinburg, and the WA2UMX UHF DStar repeater will be on the air. ? After the move the coverage of 147.240 MHz repeater should be about the same and all K2DLL repeaters will now be in secure Saratoga County buildings with emergency backup power. ? ? Jim K2LM |

were you on the VHF contest this weekend?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello all, I don¡¯t know how many of you got a chance to play in the ARRL VHF WSO party this weekend.? I did spend a few hours in it on Sunday.? You might know that I am a big fan of the FT8 digital mode.? The 6 meter band has been called the magic band, and my experience this weekend certainly proved that name is appropriate. I ended up making 82 contacts in 24 grid squares.? Most of the contacts were rather BLAH in the NY and New England area. BUT¡ right around 21:00 UTC (5 PM local), my FT8m screen lit up and I saw a lot of mid western grids come in. I worked EM89 (Ohio) and EN89 (Il)? in rapid succession until the band died about 5 minutes later.? I was about ready to quit around 8 PM after my XYL and I watched some TV, but I logged back in just to see what was going on.? I quickly got a new grid, and that hooked me for a few hours.? At 01:24 there was a real quick opening to South America, I worked CE3SOC(Chile) for a new grid (FF466).? The only other station I saw him respond to was W2SZ, a powerhouse contest station over in Massachusetts.? (Boy was I lucky) Jim KG2H ? |
