First A.I. contact
6
Well this evening marks a true mile stone in my Amateur Radio career. While using the clubs Wilton Remote station I had a QSO with N3QE on 40 meters. Not remarkable except that Tim has been doing a lot of experimenting with A.I. and has incorporated in his contest station. So like the linked video shows I had a QSO with Tim’s A.I. operator “Tina” asked for a repeat of the serial number. I hope that Tim gives a paper on his experimenting with A.I. at the upcoming Hamvention in Dayton. While not my QSO this is a link of another stations QSO that posted to Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BJSh8uyeS/?mibextid=wwXIfr Our hobby is truly a life long hobby and there is always something new to experiment or explore. 73 Brian NJ1F

Next weekend's fun on HF
As the winter Radio Sport Contest season winds toward spring and ARRL Field Day. Next weekend is one of the best HF contests of the year, CQ WPX SSB is always the last full weekend of March. What is so fun about this contest is that everyone works everyone worldwide for QSO points, plus the multipliers are the prefix of the stations callsign! Being at the peak of the solar cycle technicians can share in the fun on ten meters! If you are a technician you have SSB privileges from 28.300 MHz to 28.500 MHz why not get on. 2025 CQ World-Wide WPX SSB Contest March 29-30, 2025 Starts: 0000 UTC Saturday (local is 8 pm Friday) Ends: 2359 UTC Sunday (local 8 pm Sunday) I. OBJECTIVE: For amateurs worldwide to contact as many amateurs and prefixes as possible during the contest period. II. PERIOD OF OPERATION: 48 hours. Single Operator stations may operate 36 of the 48 hours – off times must be a minimum of 60 minutes during which no QSO is logged. Multi-operator stations may operate the full 48 hours. III. BANDS: Only the 1.8, 3.5, 7, 14, 21, and 28 MHz bands may be used. Observance of established band plans is strongly encouraged. IV. EXCHANGE: RS(T) report plus a progressive contact serial number starting with 001 (note you don’t have to say the leading zeros for the first 100 QSO’s) for the first contact. Note: Multi-Two, Multi-Unlimited, and Multi-Distributed entrants use separate serial number sequences on each band. V. SCORING: A. Score: The final score is the result of the total QSO points multiplied by the number of different prefixes worked. B. QSO Points: A station may be worked once on each band for QSO point credit: 1. Contacts between stations on different continents are worth three (3) points on 28, 21, and 14 MHz and six (6) points on 7, 3.5, and 1.8 MHz. 2. Contacts between stations on the same continent, but different countries, are worth one (1) point on 28, 21, and 14 MHz and two (2) points on 7, 3.5, and 1.8 MHz. Exception: For North American stations only—contacts between stations within the North American boundaries (both stations must be located in North America) are worth two (2) points on 28, 21, and 14 MHz and four (4) points on 7, 3.5, and 1.8 MHz. 3. Contacts between stations in the same country are worth 1 point regardless of band. C. Prefix Multipliers: The prefix multiplier is the number of valid prefixes worked. Each PREFIX is counted only once regardless of the band or number of times the same prefix is worked. 1. A PREFIX is the letter/numeral combination which forms the first part of the amateur call. Examples: N8, W8, WD8, HG1, HG19, KC2, OE2, OE25, LY1000, etc. Any difference in the numbering, lettering, or order of same shall count as a separate prefix. A station operating from a DXCC entity different from that indicated by its call sign is required to sign portable. The portable prefix must be an authorized prefix of the country/call area of operation. In cases of portable operation, the portable designator will then become the prefix. Example: N8BJQ operating from Wake Island would sign N8BJQ/KH9 or N8BJQ/NH9. KH6XXX operating from Ohio must use an authorized prefix for the U.S. 8th district (/W8, /AD8, etc.). Portable designators without numbers will be assigned a zero (?) after the second letter of the portable designator to form the prefix. Example: PA/N8BJQ would become PA?. All calls without numbers will be assigned a zero (?) after the first two letters to form the prefix. Example: XEFTJW would count as XE?. Maritime mobile, mobile, /A, /E, /J, /P, or other license class identifiers do not count as prefixes. 2. Special event, commemorative, and other unique prefix stations are encouraged to participate. Prefixes must be issued or permitted by the licensing authority of the country of operation. Complete Rules at https://www.cqwpx.com/rules/ So a typical QSO goes like this NJ1F: CQ Contest November Juliet One Foxtrot Caller: Kilo One Delta Germany NJ1F: K One Delta Germany 59 Forty Seven K1DG: 59 Seventy Three NJ1F: QRZ November Juliet One Foxtrot I really encourage you to get on the ban

[ENY-NNY-EmComm] NNY Spring SET (Everyone is welcome)
Good morning all, I want to pass along this opportunity from Rocco Conte, WU2M, NNY Section Manager. Rocco is organizing a "Spring 2025 SET" utilizing 60 meters and is inviting other area Amateur Radio folks to participate. Take a look at the information Rocco has provided below and you can also check out the NNY website at www.NNYARRL.org for additional and updated information. I hope to hear you on 60 Meters om April 26th '73 Fred Halley - W2EMS Section Emergency Coordinator, ARRL Eastern New York Section (518) 505-3733 | enyares.org | W2EMS@... PO Box 324, Clifton Park NY 12065 -----------------------------------------From: "Rocco Conte via groups.io" To: [email protected] Cc: Sent: Thursday March 13 2025 6:37:55AM Subject: [Special] [ENY-NNY-EmComm] NNY Spring SET (Everyone is welcome) Hello Everyone, I would like to talk about the upcoming spring SET. This SET is going to use the 60 meter band. I know that many of you have never operated on 60 meters and that's OK. We have scheduled some Zoom sessions to help with that. We will be holding 4 sessions in the weeks leading up to the SET to answer questions, help with set up and practice before the actual SET on Saturday April 26th. The schedule for the zoom meetings is: Mon, Apr 7 07:00 PM - 08:00 PM 2025 NNY Spring SET 60 Meter Zoom Help Meeting ID: 844 1440 3990 Mon, Apr 14 07:00 PM - 08:00 PM 2025 NNY Spring SET 60 Meter Zoom Help Meeting ID: 872 9690 7214 Mon, Apr 21 07:00 PM - 08:00 PM 2025 NNY Spring SET 60 Meter Practice Session Meeting ID: 828 5066 5975 The Zoom meeting that will act as a back channel for the SET is: Sat, Apr 26 09:00 AM - 11:00 AM 2025 NNY Spring SET Conference Room Meeting ID: 885 6332 9660 I will be sending out links to the NNYARES group and the NNYRIG groups as well as to the section group that all the EC's are part of so they can distribute them to everyone. We will also have some of the ENY folks joining us and I am planning on inviting WNY and NLI as well. The format will be a little different, but I think it will get us a lot of information pretty quickly. The net will be called by a Net Control Station (I think it may be me at this point). I will take check-ins from all stations. We will have two groups of check-ins. The first group will be EOC's and County EC's. These stations will be here for the entire SET and will communicate pass exchange signal reports with all stations who check in. The other group will be individual stations. The individual stations will exchange signal reports will all the EOC's and EC's on frequency. Net control will keep a separate list of each. When a regular check-in checks in, net control will direct him to call the EOC stations and the EC's individually and pass a signal report. The station is then free to either secure or stick around and log what he / she hears from other regular check-in stations. If this is done properly, it will not take more than One minute or so to complete the exchanges. There is also a log online in PDF format and one in Microsoft Excel format that you an download from the NNY website. The links are: PDF Form: NNY SET Log V2.pdf EXCEL Doc: NNY SET Log V2.xlsx I hope that you will join us for this first ever NNY Spring SET. We are hopeful that we will be able to compile a useful list of signal reports and data both throughout the NNY section and the state as well. We need your help to make this work. Please keep in mind that for regular check-in stations, you will not have to invest a lot of time to make a meaningful contribution to the SET. It is my goal to have most regular check-in stations in and out in 15 minutes or so. However, everyone is welcome to stick around. If you have any questions, please give me a call at 518-848-9028 or send me an e-mail. 73, Rocco Conte – WU2M ARRL NNY Section Manager Fred Halley - W2EMS Section Emergency Coordinator, ARRL Eastern New York Section (518) 505-3733 | enyares.org | W2EMS@...
