How about using spring clamps made with PVC pipe.... cheep, simple, easy |

Re: Composite staples and the manual Rapter stapler
With Epoxy as glue, we do not need pressure to hold pieces together.
We need only devices to hold the pieces together till the glue is cured.
The only requirement is that the surfaces are free from grease and free from dust.
Another requirement is when the Epoxy surfaces are cured (like impregnated plywood)the surfaces are to
be sanded to increase the gluing area. Because we are getting only a mechanical connection. Cheers Bernd |

Re: Composite staples and the manual Rapter stapler
In response to Jack's (Nightline) comment I have been checking out options for spring clamps. HBM does not ship to Canada but there are a number of other options ?here. I already have some which came as an assortment from Canadian Tire which I used on my previous build. They work but are not very strong and are flimsy in construction. I just purchased 6 clamps from Lee Vailey Tools to try them out. Their 1 inch size looks like the most useful size for clamping planking to stringers. These clamps are rated at 35 pounds of clamping power - several times as powerful as the clamps I have or the other "cheapies" I see on the internet. And of course they come at a much higher price. My question to the collective assembled here - how much clamping power is required for the job I am doing without going too far? The Lee Valley clamps are far superior in design and quality and price - you get what you pay for. I don't mind paying the price for quality but I don't want to over clamp and starve the joints of epoxy. Comments?

Re: Little Tri mast step
Do not compare with the sunfish boat. The distance between the deck and mast step is 3 times larger on the Little Tri
Do as the drawing is showing and nothing more. A lot of Little Tris are sailing. Nobody hat here a problem. Remove extra pieces. Keep the boat as light as you can.

Now I get it. Yes, that is a big and beautiful sail region.
Be aware of Kaliningrad ;-)) I think, I understand Bernd |

Please let me know what I misunderstood and stop me before I get into more trouble. As for progress updates, thanks for the encouragement. ?I¡¯ll make an effort to find and remove identifying info from my pictures and post them shortly. Thanks again, Max |

Re: Composite staples and the manual Rapter stapler
Hi Philip
We used packing strapping too on the Pelican. Better as wire. A wire left marks in the wood which have to be filled, packing strapping not. Have you done interesting sailing with your Cataproa?? Regards Bernd |

Re: Composite staples and the manual Rapter stapler
Hi, with metal staples using packing strapping to shoot through and later to pull out work well. Regards Philip Malan

Hi, a good method is to also go to a gently sloping beach and launch with rollers, You can also wait for a tide to come in. Enjoy your boat. Regards Philip Malan

Re: Suwalki Gap update: DUO 800
Mazury - or jeziora mazurskie - infrastructure is good for monohulls. I failed to find ramp of sufficient width.
Otherwise - great space for a few days sailing. Countless ports, bays, islands and plenty of friendly people. Cheers Olek |

Re: Little Tri mast step
Hi Max
I do not understand what you are meaning by "cutting mast collar". By the way. The load on the mast is not?this high, you can use an Aluminium tube with a diameter of 60/55 mm. I do not know if you have the boat's addition (sort of update). Trop me an email and I send these to you. Nobody is perfect, if you like, please send us some photos. Bernd |

Re: Little Tri mast step
I¡¯ll check the new sail out, thank you. ?As for the progress: It¡¯s been slow going because life happens and keeps me from working on it reliably. ?The hull is mostly assembled and bottom is glassed. ?Just need to put in the mast step and attach up the decks. ?The aluminum tubing arrived the other day so I¡¯ve got some excitement back. ?I¡¯ll probably make a cutting board mast collar and maybe attach something like it on top of the mast step instead of creating a sunfish like mast tube. I haven¡¯t been posting updates or pictures because too many mistakes were made. ?Every aspect of this is new to me and time is short. ?But I¡¯m treating this as a learning experience on the way to the eco650 plans. |

Re: Little Tri mast step
By the way. There is a more powerful, modernized Sunfish sail.
It is going very far. But I was thinking that the mast sleeve is a good idea. Easier to set, and aerodynamic more efficient. Can be done with any normal Sunfish sail |
