Re: BUILDING DUO 900 ITALY
Hi Bernd
I have added new photos on the DUO 900.
I applied epoxy primer and I wait for the welder to finish all the welds of the pipes (forestay connection, mast base, etc.) and paint. Even the pipes will be painted, just a little away, only the pipes, trampoline and etc are all jobs that I can do in December.
Now on Monday 4 October 2021 I start the second construction of the KD122 and by the beginning of December I finish the two hulls.

Hi Phil, You are heavy overweighed. We were discussing this already. If you had built the sailing version, it would be grave But for a powerboat, it is not this grave. Of course, when you can, make the boat lighter. As you already mentioned, the roof made in Al would lessen the weight I presume by at least 80 kg.? As mentioned. Every 50 kg less gives 10 mm less draft. Lessens the hull resistance accordingly, makes the boat faster, and? or gives you more range (less power consumption)?
Cheers

Hi Bernd, I have now weighed the boat and it is on the heavy side. The boat plus all batteries, solar panels, head and tank, Torqeedo Cruise 2.0 motor, and mandatory things like life jackets, paddle, throw ropes, fenders all total 1700 Lbs or 772.7 Kgs. So I am 152.7 Kg (336 Lbs) over maximum weight. So I have my work cut out for me. Does the maximum capacity weight of 620Kg include people??
Regards Phil

Hi Phil
Nice video from your trip. And interesting plans for next year.
I give the weight only for the boat. I do not know what people use as hardware or engines.
The 620 kg are measured on the construction waterline. Every extra 50 kg gives a 1 cm extra draft. So when you put 200 kg more in the boat, the draft will only increase by 4 cm which is of no importance. The lighter the boat, the better of course.? By the way. I like your idea with an Aluminium roof. Less weight on the top means less rolling of the boat. You were complaining about this with the waves on one of the videos. This would be less. (Lower metacentric).? Please keep me informed about your progress
Kind regards

Hi Bernd, in your plans for the ECO5.5 power cat you have the weights of :
Weight 275 kg (606 pounds) Is this without the hardware such as steering wheel and cable, motors (two 5hp) and gas tank?
Weight max. CWL 620 kg (1366.87 pounds) I am assuming this is the very maximum that would be allowed for proper cruising.
I will be having my cat weighed next week to establish a base of where I am in weight as I want to remove 300 lbs this winter.
Thanks

Your so true about this, but if you have the money available and if the design ticks all your boxes....
On the other hand, for half a million I could build 3 boats of the type I'm building right now, and this ticks all my boxes for sure!
What I also want to point is the proud feeling every time a piece or job on the boat is finished, if that feeling was put into money,....
Hopefully next year on the water, what a proud feeling will that give...???

Hi Domenico
Thank you. But the boat was only mentioned as an example. I find that the boats today coming price-wise in a region a normal working person can not afford anymore. An 11 m open boat, which costs almost a half-million Euro. Only the e-drive and solar electric sources cost Euro 76.000,-. For these costs, a KD 105 can be built including a rig.? Something funny about it. In the web text, they were proud to have an easy-going tiller system. Mmmmm
Cheers
Bernd

For me the KD 105 is more beautiful.
Hi Bernd

This is one of these PR gags (suppress unwanted shading)
Question from my side. How to suppress unwanted shading when the shadow from a 12mm rope reduces the power output from a solar panel by 40%? Experience, no number humbug.?

A word for DIY, part 1
Interesting new multi-hull boats emerge on the market. Whit great web pages and hyperlative PR descriptions, and hyper prices. Here an example
*
A de-mountable catamaran with a length of 11 m, prices from Euro 346.000,- till 497.000,-
A bit comparable to the KD 105. Plus/minus same length.
* by the way, I have nothing against the boat, it is only an example of the costs of a professionally built boat

Hi Mike
You have figures 5, 6, and 7. There are the bulkheads with all dimensions shown.?

Hi Bernd,
If you remember I am building a tinet tri for my Grandson. Well I have what I think is enough plywood but as I was getting ready to cut out the bulkheads I notice that the plans I have do not have bulhead drawings. Is there something I am not see or can you just send me those drawings? Thanks Mike

Hi. You could also look for aerogel. It is got impressive insulation qualities. But it is also very expensive. You do not need a thick layer for insulation. It is available in blanket form. Other boaters use it to insulate their fridges and freezers. It has about 7 times the insulation properties of pir foam. Just a thought.
|
Hi Bernd, is it a good idea to use one layer of divinicell 60g/m2 sandwiched on the cabin roof to obtain some kind of insulation?
Here in the tropics the sun can warm a lot inside the boat.
|
Hi Bernd, yes I got your email. Thank you and I will let you know how my weight loss program works over the winter.

Tilting the canopy for maximizing solar performance
Here is a link to my latest video where I have modified the linear actuators to have the port separate from the starboard side so I can lower one side to tilt the canopy and maximize the solar performance. ?Phil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Blea1osBTok

Re: Building tiny tri for Grandson while waiting for marine ply for 520
Hi Mike
They are regular battens you can buy in water sports article shops.? For the mast use Aluminium. The sails are fastened to the mast as any sail with a sleeve.
