Re: Eco 65 houseboat "Galadriel"
Hello guys, Bernd, your answer to Jens' post reminded me that it's time to give you an update on my building progress (see photos in my gallery). After side planking had been finished, I built the stern extensons and two storage boxes into the space between BH4 and 5. This is to have a storage room there acessible from the bridge deck for lines and fuel canisters without taking away the floatation reserve. I want to leave the "terrace" whithout the storage bunks to use it with folding chairs and table. Anyway, these boxes will be watertight closed when in use later. The prebending of the keel bars under my carport helped a little bit. To reduce pressure, I first glued the inner bars and let them cure, and then clamped on the outer ones. This worked very well. Outside planking went straight forward. Last week I finished the first layer of the bottom planking. It really looks like a boat now! Gluing the second layer has been started yesterday. I use the evening hours (falling temperatures) for gluing and, if possible, an hour in the morning for planing and shaping the edges.? Still a lot of things left to do, but I'm optimistic the planned things ready until I have to leave the shed in the middle of October. We'll see... Best regards, Holger |

Re: Bau eines weiteren Hausboot-CAT (ECO 68)
Hello Jens
I was thinking you lost the interest in the boat. Perhaps material (you are the guy with the carbon sheet?) that the material was going out.? So,?I, we? where wondering what was going one. I am wondering if the K-designs community at sleep. With some exceptions.? By the way, Yahoo sorted out the problem to send photos. Cheers Bernd |

Re: Bau eines weiteren Hausboot-CAT (ECO 68)
Hello Bernd, hello all, I was shocked how far I had to go back to find my last post ... but I was not idle all the time; I finished my little boat "Hexlein" so that it could still drive this season. ... this construction site is done now ... Tomorrow I continue with the lamination of the second CAT hull .... then I will report again! best regards Jens |

Re: KD Italy and video link
Hi Domenico
Thank you for the update.?Tomorrow sailing? I was very busy lately and in the hospital too. This is the reason I had no time to look properly?at your videos. Was not that easy on the streets (no wonder I know them). Nice videos. I made a short video. There some mistakes in (my side). But anyway I hope you like him and prospective builders can see a lot. For instance how low the draft of the boat is. Is the port safe in a Sirokko? I know from the Vieste what a real Sirokko is. So keep us informed from your first sail if you like. Have?fun Cheers Bernd Here the link to the video: |

Re: KD 860 FI
Hello Pete
The engine holder should work of course. To steer the engine is in this case also easy. Use a tiller mounted to the engine cover. Mount him in a way that you can till him up (the tiller) or remove. Sometimes it is a pity that letters disappear in the "lower regions" and nobody is looking, or that the file folder is so less used.?. Look at this file and you have a perfect trampoline holder. Costs, nihil, work almost nothing, weight,?almost nothing.? Cheers Bernd ? |

Re: KD 860 FI
Hello Bernd, I still have my SC435 but is in my garage. I sure do miss sailing it. Patrick, I'm pleased to answer: -Outboard will be connected to pod rather than sledge (see attached pictures). I wish it will work... -Yes, I chose manual tilt partly because bracket is smaller, but the main reason is because in my solution only the pod tilts. I will make the outboard steerable, don't know yet how. -Engine is Yamaha 9.9 GEX FT (extra long shaft, full thrust) and I didn't find it from Finland. I ordered it from GB ( ). -Assuming you ment tramp holders: PVC pipe is normal 16 mm "electric" pipe. I will insert a 4 mm SS rod in them after cutting holes for 6 mm ropes in 100-150 mm intervals. I don't see any problem fitting the rod into pipe. I got instructions from this guy: , only added Dyneema ropes through hull to secure the connection. (By the way, I found a handy knot, , to hold the pipe.) Cheers Pete |

Re: KD 860 FI
Hi Pete
I understand the high temperatures are a bit unusual?for Finland. But you can go sailing with your SC435 (still exists ?). Interesting?engine arrangement. Interesting engine and trampoline rail. I hope for you this will work. It can be?very quick that the temperatures sink. Thanks for the interesting pictures Cheers Bernd |

Re: KD 860 FI
Hi Pete
It is very exciting to see pictures. In the heat the trick is not dripping sweat into your epoxy. Our shed is very hot near the roof of course. Now some questions if that is OK with you: How long, fore and aft, is the outboard sled? Did you go with a manual tilt outboard because the bracket is smaller? What is the length of the outboard leg/shaft? Was it hard to find a manual tilt with electric start? What size is the pvc pipe? What size is the ss rod? Did you get ss rod the full length of the pvc? Any problems inserting the rod after attaching the pvc? How long will the cut outs be in the pvc? Cheers Patrick |

Re: KD 860 FI
Hello
Project update: I uploaded a couple of pictures to KD860 Fi folder. I've been bit lazy during this summer in boat building because of this heat (30 centigrade) I'm not used to, I'd prefare 15 degrees:) I've made tramp holders and engine box. Tramp holders are made of PVC tube (SS rod), BIAX tape and some Dyneema through the hull. Inner outboard box is pivoting, axle is SS tube in PP pipe. I wish I can do the rest of the sanding and prepaint the shell before winter comes. Time spent so far: 1230 hours in about 7 years. Cheers, Pete |

Re: Eco 65 houseboat "Galadriel"
Hallo Holger The "bow truster" electric outboard is a good solution. When the main engine backs up also a good emergency solution.? One of the bigger fishing boat e-outboards will do till? 4-5 bft. Can now also be use on salt water are powerful and relative cheap. Example ZEBCO R-VX54. Kostet +/- 200,- Euro. Amazon has them also (ich hasse den Laden). You can remove the top electric and use it as a remote control. With battery cabel etc ca. € 350,-. It is worth to do it because of the possibility when the main engine packs-up. Thanks for the photos by the way. A good solution Cheers Bernd |

Re: Eco 65 houseboat "Galadriel"
Dear Bernd,
we recently talked about using a luvboard for better side wind stability. I'm not yet done with this, but, to be honest, it just helps if enough water depth is available like in ports. In shallow waters it does not. Due to this I'm getting back to your plans and think about using a small electric outboard under the bridge deck at the bow that can be flipped up. Just to use it as a bowthruster. What do you think, how "small" can this be, how much lbs I have to plan with to struggle winds at 4-5 bft maybe? Thanks for your help, best, Holger |

Hello G¨¹nter
When somebody orders a study or normal plan he gets included?in the?In the accompanying letter the link for the Forum. He has to be admitted to the group. The reason, most groups include a lot of talks which do not belong to the issue of the design.?The building, sailing, files, addresses are here to help to build your boat. So we restrict the access. But, when he has a study plan or plan from my design he will be admitted. He has only to tell what he has ordered and will be admitted and can see all. G¨¹sse? Bernd ? |
