Metheny and Joshua Redman #PatMetheny
Damn!! I just came across this shorter early Joshua Redman CD called Introducing Joshua Redman. The last track is 15 minutes of what sounds like a track from the same gig that gave us "Blues for Pat" at the end of the Wish album. Inspired playing, interaction, and lots of good stuff to lift. https://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/bvqkz9 Anyone else think that's a Spiderman quote at about 1:58? Moonlight Savings Time 4
Mundell Lowe played the guitar for Blossom Dearie's version of Moonlight savings time. I loved the choice of chords/substittions and the arrangement with the drummer and Bass and the fantastic swingy syncopation is really unique. Would love to hear the groups comments. Plus does anybody have the actual chords in this version ? Thanks PS: Heres the Youtube clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NesPpuB14cQ

Jimmy Bruno & Frank Vignola: Upcoming video 3
Just an FYI: Jimmy Bruno and Frank Vignola, two incredible jazz guitarists whose careers/lives were in jeopardy a year ago, just did a recording together to be released (I think by TrueFire) in the next few weeks. They played together with Howard Alden on one of my favorite guitar albums called Concord Jazz Guitar Collective in 1995 with Joe Pass's bassist and drummer. I get no personal benefit from telling you all about this, but I'm really looking forward to hearing it and think that many of you will as well. Rick

Hearing only the guitar track 3
Perhaps a dumb question but something I've always wondered about. When listening to a recording, is it possible technically to strip out everything but the guitar track? On the records Joe Pass made with Ella Fitzgerald, for example, is it possible to listen only to Joe's accompaniment? That would be a fantastic learning experience. In another context, would it be possible today to take an old Stones record and just listen to what Keith Richards is playing? Thanks

Seymour Duncan Pickups for Jazz 2
Hello everyone, been quite an ordeal to get signed in here this time around. Hello to Juan and John Amato if he is still active here. I got a used archtop from the folks at Heritage Via Wolfe Guitars in Fla. There are issues with the floater. I've been talking with Mike at Herritage [ fine bunch of people as far as I can tell. They suggested I try to bend the floater's mount and it came loose.... with very minimal prodding by me. I could see there was no room to move with the pick gard in place. This in it's self isn't a big issue. I am thinking about replacing that pickup anyway. For now it would be a neck mount. The guitar was built to satisfy someone who wanted a Johnny Smith model. According to the hype they came as close as they could with out infringing on somebody's turf according to the story. I wanted that particular guitar because of the 1.75 nut and the 25 inch scale. I really liked that idea and had never played on till mine arrived. So that's why I want to ask you guys about pickups. I remember someone [ but sadly not their name ] who often spoke highly of Seymour Duncan pickups. I remember he had an L4 at the time I was hanging around here. I'd like to find out which pickup he was talking about. It would be pretty easy to hang a full sized humbucker there. I lean toward the darker sound of a top mounted humbucker, but Mike and some of the folks at Heritage are not big fans of that idea. I think..... the top is braced with two parallel braces which would not be compromised by putting one there. But if I can find the right neck mount p.u. I could spend more time playing then woodworking. That would be ok too. Does anyone remember the Seymour Duncan pickup L4 owner was so in favor of? Again I apologize. p.s. I'm still not a jazzer and still can't compose a brief post. Ron

Value of guitars for insurance purposes 6
I think I posed this question some years ago, but It doesn’t seem as if I can retrieve the old posts using the instructions at this group’s FAQ, so I apologize for the redundancy. I’d like to get an insurance rider for a few valuable items that I own, including a couple of my guitars. Can anyone on the list suggest a way to determine the insurance value of guitars? I realize it’s a broad question but there are probably some thoughts out there. Thanks for the help. Rick
