Re: Name this tune....
If you like the tune “A Child Is Born” you absolutely must here the Kenny Burrell recording of this tune. I forget which CD it’s on but it might be on the “Round Midnight” or “God Bess The Child”.Brian Kelly< It's definitely on a disc called "Heritage." Xmas story (finger positions)
I'd like to tell a real quick Xmas story. For more than two years I have been
practicing and reading about jazz guitar and trying to make progress. Then I went through a diffcult stretch due to where I was based (Nigeria) and quit the job I was doing and etc etc etc, boring stuff that all working people go through, and I put the guitar down for almost 3 months. On top of everything I seemed to have developed a pinched nerve or some sort of muscle thing in the shoulder of my right arm which caused immense pain whenever I did try to saddle up the ol archtop. Anyway, today, Xmas Eve and all that, the pain seemed to have eased off in the last week or three, so I destringed, cleaned, restringed and tuned and thought well, where to start. Back to basics. And I really was worried that I would struggle to remember the scales and arps and all the rest of it. Well, praise be (and I'm not a religious type a guy) but my fingers just went on about their business and within minutes I was running through all sorts of practice runs etc etc and so on. It was as if my fingers knew where to go and were just telling me to relax and go with them!!!! Being again so far from home (this time the Middle East), and away from my loved ones, it really had an impact. To think that all the work I have put in was not lost feels like a real Seasonal miracle to me. Now I know that there are many millions of folks out there in the world who need a REAL miracle just about?now, and I know that me trying to play the guitar is a trivial little thing,?but this little thing, in my little world really lifted my spirits. I hope everyone on the group has some sort of thing to celebrate this Christmas. All the best to everyone!!!!! Mark Cassidy [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

From: "Terry Petty" I printed out a tune with art farmer playing, Jim hall comping, but the name of the tune is missing. It's in F.I can't find it on Rhapsody.can anyone name an album that they made together? Or help in some way? Thanks. Terry< They did an album named "Big Blues," on CTI. Weee, I can post again
thegoodwizard
Well... hopefully.
The jazz group emails stopped coming 3 weeks ago and it wouldn't let me re-register my main email, or even post. I have just been lurking lately anyway, but I do miss the interchanges. ' Anyway, Merry Xmas to all and I hope Santa leaves a big fat jazz guitar in everyone's stocking... hehe Cheers, Doc Dosco Doc's Peerless guitar website |
Re: Tab to Notation Program
G7 by Sibelius has tab and standard notation. I've never tried entering tab, but you could check the specs to see what happens.

#RIP
I was in a music store the other day and came across "Fretboard Basics".
It is a collection of his Guitar Player magazine columns from 1978. The one page articles make for a great read especially commuting and waiting for planes. Mark |

If you look at the page views for music and music tuition videos on Youtube alone you can see that music is one of the major factors behind Youtube revenues. As you have also pointed out a search on Google for MP3s turns up hundreds of links to music pirate sites which have Google ads all over them, yet somehow they can exclude other sites that they do not like, like child pornography, from their index. Thanks for the kind words! 2010 was an "interesting" year for me (in the context of the old Chinese curse, "may you live in interesting times"), but I'm doing OK, and hoping '11 will be a bit less "interesting". All the best to you and yours! Cheers, JV Juan Vega -----Original Message-----

You are dead right. Splicing in re-enforcements, carefully carving away the excess to follow the neck contour and then doing a re-finish takes hours of labour. I have just refused an Epiphone job because they expected the whole job for ?30! ($60) Will
