Re: USB Connected- NoAudio

Ours do not behave this way. We regularly test with the UXB cable attach, but monitor the JackAl audio out. Did you cut the trace on the bottom of the Teensy?

Another bug that you are probably already aware of but thought I would pass it by you.? Discovered it while using the debug monitor.
With the USB connected to the computer the JackAl audio will turn off except as noted below with these filter settings.
SSB Filter- audio on only with filter NONE selected
CW Filter- audio on with filter 150, 300, 400, NONE.? Audio off with 600, CUST
Could not figure out why when I plugged in the USB the JackAl audio quit until I accidently selected NONE on the filter. Second Teensy audio board does the same thing.? The ubitx audio out was unaffected with the USB plugged in. I was trying to troubleshoot because I eventually want to use CAT with FT8/WSJT-X, USB plugged in all the time.

JackAl Display and Voltage Spikes

All:

Two JackAl owners have reported that a voltage spike destroyed their RA8875 display. Al has looked into this and found that there is a very narrow voltage window on the display. Buydisplay confirms that 4V on the 3.3V line can ruin the display. From what we can determine, voltage spikes were the culprit in both cases.?

What we're doing is creating a very small PCB that will clamp the supply voltage to the display. Parts for the board will cost less than $2. We will send one of these PCB boards to JackAl owners at no charge with a request and a SASE. We will provide further details when the boards come in and announce their availability here. We are also expanding the documentation and hope to have a new assembly manual by week's end. Again, we will announce it here.

Re: 7 inch Screen Calibration

The values actually end up being written to EEPROM so they will be available the next time you start the program.

Partially completed JackAl board for sale

Jim Sheldon

I am finding that I simply do not have the time to tie things up long enough to complete this project so I'm offering what I have (see picture) for sale.
JackAl board from QRP Guys, Teensy 3.6 with the Audio Shield mounted and cabled.? The Teensy 3.6 has been programmed with the JackAl software V0.95 which is for the Version 4 uBITX boards.? The cables have all been made up (except you will have to make your own power cable).? 4 plastic stand-offs are already mounted on the 4 corners of the JackAl.? The cable wiring was correct as of the time this was put together and unless it has changed since should still be correct.? Some of the jacks & controls are also included (see picture).? I had an adapter board made to make it easy to plug the JackAl's display output into the specified 5" display and that has been confirmed to work.? I am not including the 5" display in this offer as I have already used it in another project.? After completing construction to this point, I checked the voltages against the information provided by Jack & Al and they check within tolerance.? I have NOT connected this to a radio as of yet and as I said, I simply do not have the time to complete the project due to other constraints to my time.

I am asking $110.00 (via PayPal only) for this and that does include shipping anywhere in the US.? I'd prefer not to ship this internationally due to customs hassles and possible VAT/Customs duties the recipient might be stuck with.

If interested contact me OFF this reflector.? My email address is w0eb (at) cox dot net? First party to contact me (by date/time on the email) gets right of first refusal.? This is being offered "As-Is" with no returns.? What you see in the attached picture is what you get in the package.

Thanks,
Jim Sheldon, W0EB

JackAl and the V5 ?BITX

I'm almost done with my Version 5 ?BITX. I need to modify the volume control shaft for the knob I want to use and I want to add a small fan for the PA's. Al's looks better as he has more patience than I do. There were no hardware changes needed to the JackAl board. We want to do a little more testing on the software before we release a new version. We will post the new version of the code on hamradiodesigns.com next week and I'll make an announcement here when it's ready.

Re: Arduino IDE 1.8.9 w/ Teensyduino 1.4.6 Beta 10

We have our V5 test boards all working now and it did not require any changes to the hardware. We will be posting a new version of the JackAl code "soon", but I want to make a few more tests before we release it.

Jack, W8TEE

Was able to compile JackAl 0.95.

Installed Arduino 1.8.9 to it's own directory (did not use installer, downloaded ZIP)
Installed Teensyduino 1.4.6 beta 10 (available on their forums)
Removed RA8875 from Teensy library folder, replaced with RA8875 from Ham Radio Designs
Added appropriate libraries per installation instructions (OpenAudio, Rotary, UTouch/Buttons, etc)

Compiled successfully for Teensy 3.6

I don't have the JackAl board built yet, moving into new home so no workbench yet)

because if it is way out of calibration there is no way to get to Setup and then select from the menu.

Al and I are working on a new draft of the manual, since we had to build a couple of new rigs to test V5 of the uBITX. In the meantime, take your time and follow the manual, as what you need is there...just not as well written as we'd like.

Jack,
Thanks for the response.
1.? Did removed the jumper between the pads so all is ok now with ability to pgm teensy in-situ with supply connected.
2.? I did expect that based on page 25 of the manual, that i would see the yellow circles to initiate the cal (not sure if this was intended with the previous software release (v094) but currently using v095.
i didn't have the display hooked up at first powerup of the teensy (doing voltage checks) so never saw the yellow circles.?
so down to the manual initiate of the screen cal as stated on pg 25.

display comes up with your splash screen and with some values in the display does recognize touch, but way off...have to hunt around to find a spot, that reacts (love the other screens ie. wpm..and encoder works.

You can see the images.? so that's all good.
If possible if you have some rough numbers for the 7 inch I would like to try those and see what i'm not doing correctly that would be appreciated.
I've spent about 3 hours figuring out i don't know what I'm missing..

Is it possible to bring up the 'yellow circles? or do i do the top left bottom right using the serial monitor, and then where do those values go?? in here?
float xFinal = ;
float yFinal = ;
thanks for your help..

Perhaps code in the ability to utilize an unsual HMI condition, such as holding an encoder switch on, while booting up to bring up an initial display size selection screen. ?Use encoder to select screen size. ?Then go straight to cal screen.
