Re: Reds Meadow/Mammoth Exit NOBO
There is a huge fire going on in the Kennedy meadows area. I think PCT is closed in that area.? On Fri, 2 Aug 2024 at 05:18, David Beebe via <djbeebe=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Reds Meadow/Mammoth Exit NOBO
You could try the Mammoth Pass Cutoff trail, at Upper Crater Meadow. This takes you to the Twin Lakes trailhead and a free shuttle into Mammoth Lakes.

Reds Meadow/Mammoth Exit NOBO
Am planning to do NOBO staring at Kennedy Meadows and exiting at Reds Meadow. ?But just discovered Reds Meadow Road and associated trail exits are closed during the week this summer due to road construction. ?Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative exit path to Mammoth? ? ?Trail entry/exits closed include Beck Lake, Fern Lake, Fish Creek, High Trail, John Muir Trail North of Devil’s Postpile, John Muir Trail South of Devil’s Postpile, Minaret Lake, River Trail and Shadow Creek. ?They are open on the weekend, but plans would bring me to Reds during the week.? |

Re: good freeze dried food sources
I'll also give a nod toward Outdoor Herbivore.? They ha e always been great and now are repackaged, like others, to prepare in the bag.? Their dehydrated hummus is better than any I e tried. I like Good-to-Go as well. On Tue, Jul 30, 2024, 4:00?PM Martha via <marthagilmorephd=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: San Joaquin crossing
I was at the San Joaquin crossing in the past week. ?I crossed the river 0.1 miles north from the previous bridge with water level at hip height (I'm 5'2"). ?The water level was higher due to 3 days of afternoon rain. ?A helicopter was bringing in supplies for the construction workers. ?I spoke with one of the construction workers and he said their focus was to have a temporary swing bridge completed within a few days for the backpackers to use, so that we would be safe. ?He also said that by sometime in August they would have the final metal bridge built. A few days later another hiker told me the temporary swing bridge was built and being used safely by all the backpackers. ? |
Re: good freeze dried food sources
Try Outdoor Herbivore. They sell things in bulk and packaged meals. Vegetarian or vegan and quite tasty Martha Martha Gilmore, PhD, CGP, FAGPA . Please excuse brevity and typographical errors. On Tue, Jul 30, 2024 at 1:43?PM judithsmcguire via <judithsmcguire=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: good freeze dried food sources
Harmony House seconded for veggies, plus Mountain House for their breakfast skillet. If you still have time to do any dehydrating at all, cannot recommend highly enough drying some cooked beans or kale/spinnach (ease of prep and preservation time). Also, store bought fine couscous, quick-cook pasta and minute rice are easy to throw into the pot for increased calories. cheers, Andrew |
Re: good freeze dried food sources
I've used Harmony House for dehydrated and freeze dried veggies. Trailtopia has some (mostly meat) Side Packs.

Good luck!

Re: Forester Pass
开云体育Thanks all.?I just got down from the high sierra. We ran into thunderstorms for the first four days. We got rained on at Kearsarge lakes on Monday. Most people in my group got soaked.? Tuesday, thunder started at 11am, so we halted at Charlotte lake. Major thunder in the afternoon.? We should have crossed Forester on Wednesday, but given the forecast, we decided to change course and went over Glen Pass to Rae lakes. Again, got rained on in the evening.? We day hikes to 60 lakes basin on Thursday and made it before it rained again.? It finally cleared yesterday, we made our way back to Onion valley after a stop in Kearsarge lakes.? Last year, hurricane Hillary happened when I attempted this section :).? I will try again next year.? On Jul 23, 2024, at 6:41?PM, WanderingJim via groups.io <jimjmt2020@...> wrote:
