Re: Inyo Permits
Some info for anyone trying to figure out Inyo NF’s release timing, I think
8/29-31 permits were released at midnight; I grabbed mine then. (Whether
this year’s fire season will allow me to

Re: Inyo Permits
Permits are available for August 29, 30 and 31. I thought everything would be available at 7:00 AM, but they’re available now.

The park service is planning on having the Tuolumne Meadows Hiker's shuttle operational this year.? Thus, you could stay overnight at the backpacker's campground in Yosemite Valley, and take the

Re: Camping at Trailhead
One additional option is to see if you can get a walk up permit the day before your permitted hike. Its a bit different now so check regulations. I have done that from the valley and from Tuolumne

Re: Camping at Trailhead
Thanks, that is my best option, as I don't want to be going back and forth on public transport.
It is good to know the back-up option, thanks all.

Re: Camping at Trailhead
As someone suggested, stay at a motel in Lee Vining. The early morning
Yarts bus gets you to TM around 8:30. That's plenty early to get you to
the campground just before Donahue.

Re: Camping at Trailhead
Thanks Jeff, is there always space there or could I arrive at the backpackers camp and not get a camping spot because it's full?

Re: Camping at Trailhead
I still don't really fully understand. If you arrive one day later you save one day of vacation before the trip, which you can use extra at the end of the trip.
But if there one is allowed to

They may be resuming the Tuolumne Meadows Hikers Bus this year. That would get you to Tuolumne Meadows aroun 10:30 am,? earlier than the YARTS bus. I would check on

Re: Camping at Trailhead
You can stay one night in the backpackers camp if you arrive by bus, or have a permit for the next day. You’re covered for staying in the backpacker’s camp.

I can only get 3 weeks off work, and that needs to include travel time, and I want to enjoy the trip with two layover days.

Re: Camping at Trailhead
Why not just arrive the day of your permit in Yosemite, and start the same day into Lyell Canyon to a campsite outside the 4 miles zone?

Re: Camping at Trailhead
I plan to arrive by bus to Yosemite valley the day before I start my trip.
I could potentially stay in the backpackers campsite (but no guarantee of a place) and get the first YART out of the valley.

Re: Camping at Trailhead
You aren’t allowed to camp at the trailhead. There is car camping at Saddlebag lake. That’s just a few miles down 120 toward Lee Vining. I think there are other sights along 120 as well.

Camping at Trailhead
Hi,
After 2 years of trip cancellations due to COVID, I am very grateful to have a permit leaving from Tuolumne Meadows in late June this year. The Tuolumne Meadows campsite is closed for renovation
