Why not just arrive the day of your permit in Yosemite, and start the same day into Lyell Canyon to a campsite outside the 4 miles zone?

I could potentially stay in the backpackers campsite (but no guarantee of a place) and get the first YART out of the valley. There is very limited accommodation in the valley. I tried Curry Village but it is booked out. Ideally, I'd like to be close to the trailhead to get an early start. Geraldine? -- |
