thank you. I'm also considering the high route, but probably would end up with the safe route and come back for the missing JMT another time.

Lamarck col holds a high angle snowfield on the North lake side.? When we went in Sept it was possible to climb around on large block talus.? The descent to Darwin lakes is talus/sand and was dry when we went over.? If you go the Lamarck way I think traction would be advisable. I would check trip reports closer to the time of your travel.? It is a spectacular area and might be worth the extra weight.? Travel in Darwin bench requires some talus travel along the lakes and is a bit slow and fatiguing
?
Hi,
I will be travelling SOBO mid-august and probably take the suggested Piute pass detour. Seems like a big stretch for one day though. I understood that you can hitchhike between the north and south lake but still a long way.
Shifting through forums it seems that I could spend a night before and after switching from one trailhead to another, so before leaving north lake and after entering south lake. is that so?
- where is it advisable and allowed to camp over night, before proceeding?
Is there any new standard by now?
- lamarck col also should be possible mid-august? depending on snow conditions of course. I don't plan to take crampons or ice axe with me..
thx

My niece and I are going SOBO starting from the Mono/Parker Pass TH 7/7. We have been monitoring the situation at the site of the bridge over the SF of the San Joaquin to determine if there's any chance of a water crossing - seems sketch - or
do we commit to the Piute->town of Bishop->Bishop Pass workaround. The choice has food resupply implications for our planning.?
We've seen FarOut comments from several NOBO PCTers that have successfully used this route.
?However, after examining the route on CalTopo, we are concerned about taking the ?route going southbound. In particular the descent back down to the trail seems fairly steep from 9800' to 9400'. Has anyone seen a report on using the route going
south?
Thanks
John
