1983 was the year Alpine Meadows ski resort had their avalanche session. The whole ridge broke during one storm. The result:
*?? Summit chair lift had the walls blown in and out the other side
*?? A gal was trapped in the chair house, under a bench, for a week until it was safe enough to get her out.
*?? The 2nd floor of the Alpine Meadows lodge was filled 2/3 with snow.
*?? The Alpine Bowl chair had snow that was 10 feet ABOVE the top of the chair lift towers.
*?? The powder skiing a couple of weeks later was just FANTASTIC!!! Light, dry powder that was hip deep, and drifts at least 5 feet.
Pretty wild ski season.
