Yes you may resupply in aindependence without a penalty. The Mt Williamson is taking reservations already for the 2022 hiking season. We have several discounted packages for hikers. Feel free to email us with any questions you have about logistics. We love to serve Hikers.?

I think the answer is that this is allowed, but? your best source of information on this will be the fine folks at the Mt Williamson Motel.? They have been dealing with this for a few years now and can tell you from their first-hand experience.? It is their business, and they do it? very well.
I would not even rely on any answer you get from Inyo National Forest.? And I say that with all due respect for the fine work Inyo does in many other respects.? Making their regulations and policies clear on questions like this is not their strong suit.? For years Inyo had a very clear position of allowing a 24-hour? departure from the trail, and return by the same departure point.? Then a couple of years ago, they muddied the waters by rescinding that permission, then modifying it a couple of times, eventually saying that they would allow time "reasonably necessary" for resupply.? There have been varying interpretations of what amount of time is "reasonably necessary" at any given resupply point.? You can look at the Inyo National Forest web site for whatever their latest is on the subject, but ultimately, I would rely only on Mt Willamson tells ypou their actual experience has been.
