I agree for a reentry southbound though I'd probably choose Duck Pass over Red Cones as thhe miles of JMT you'd miss aren't all that nice and Duck is quite nice
If starting in Mammoth Lakes area (as opposed to having resupplied there): Note that Mammoth Pass - Red Cones is a different permit (AA16) from a Reds Meadow - Devils Postpile permit (AA10 or AA15 depending on direction)
Red Cones is an easy entry point, particularly Northbound, Southbound from Mammoth Lakes area, I'd choose Duck Pass (JM01) over either Devils Postpile or Red Cones/Mammoth Pass
