J say script issues, I think

My latest ordeal is that sometimes J say Scripps don’t seem to always work.

It may be related to this: I was having some trouble with jaws, at this point I can’t remember what it was, but for some reason I thought it might be smart to reset jaws to factory settings. You would think I would know better.

In doing so, it apparently dumped all settings and scripts that were installed. No problem, I thought, since I had a fairly recent version of J say downloaded to my computer. I ran the install and things mostly are working out.

However, it doesn’t seem to want to dictate in things like address bars, search boxes or form fields. This includes the address/search bar and file Explorer. I noticed that I am reduced to issuing a command to individually type each character there. My workaround is to have an open Word document which I can easily dictate into. It just adds an extra layer to my workflow to copy and paste things over into a web form.

Another oddity is that some commands and Outlook are missing. For example the command to go to folder is missing. I can still tell Dragon to press control Y to access it. Also the command to save an attachment is missing. Fortunately, I can manage to navigate to it with Windows commands.

If any of this makes sense, and you can point me to a solution, I would appreciate it. I promise, I’ll try not to break your product anymore (I hope).

I am having the same type of issue and had to reinstall everything, including Jaws, so frustrating that keep on hearing the "I DONT UNDERSTAND MESSAGE"?

In November, I connected to your computer and corrected a Dragon problem where the profile was not being saved. I ensured it was working.

The fact that I had to do that for you would indicate that you do need assistance with issues like this, and that you get into difficulties when you do them yourself. That is logical.

So if you did have problems, I would have thought the thing to do would have been to say, “this isn’t working”, or, “that isn’t working”, and then it could have been hopefully fixed rather than undertaking various repairs.

Now, if it is true that text is not being written to the Address Bar of a browser for example, that is a Dragon issue rather than a J-Say one, and Dragon may?? need to be re-installed or the browser configured in some way. But that needs investigating.

I will write to you and arrange another appointment with you to remote back on and undertake all the configuration again. If we are lucky, that may be this week, but I will certainly be in contact with you and we’ll go through these issues.

The reason it is saying, I do not understand, is usually because a noise cancelling headset is not being used as recommended in the J-Say User Guide.

Dragon is capturing sound that it cannot process correctly.

You can disable J-Say from saying that with the command, Errors Off, but that will not solve the overall problem. All that will do is stop the message from being spoken. Dragon is still capturing the unwanted sound. So the first step in resolving this perhaps is to let us know the make and model of the headset being used so I can advise you better.

That could be part of your issue. I would be inclined to switch it to a Plantronics headset, such as one of the POLY Blackwire 3220 or 3210 items. I always recommend those. They are USB headsets that produce a good level of voice recognition.

I think you ought to start by ensuring you are using a good quality noise cancelling headset as previously described.

When you have that, come back to me. I will arrange a time with you to log onto the computer. We’ll create a new profile with that headset and I will make sure that everything is configured correctly, because it sounds as though it may not be.
